I had my r-n-y gastric bypass on August 19, 2002. My weight seems to be coming off at about half the rate that everyone else has. I'm 5'8", started at 270 pounds, and have only lost 60 lbs. Is anyone else out there losing this slowly??

Hi Vickey, I had mine August 8, 2002 and my weight loss has slowed as well. I'm 5' 4" and started at 270, I have lost 102 pounds. My surgeon tells me this is very normal. The more weight you have to loose, the faster you loose it, so now that our weight is down, we will loose slower. My surgeon also tells me over and over, because I keep asking, that it takes about 2 years to become what he calls stable, he says I will loose, not loose and possible even gain, and back around again before I reach this stage. Hang in there girl, it will happen for us both. Leeann Norton 10 months post-op

I had my surgery August 7, 2002. I have always felt that I would be the one that had the surgery and it would not work for me. I have lost about 70 lbs ..I started at 233. I hoped to be at the 100 mark by my anniverysary date but I'm not sure. I haven't stepped on a scale since April when the Dr. told me I was at 70lb lost. I'm walking about 2 miles every day. Still watching what I eat. Maybe I'm just an extremely slow looser! Frustrating as it is at least I'm not gaining.

I have the same problem. I had open RNY 8/26/02. Initially I was loosing 4-6 pounds a week. Now I am just over 10 months post-op and I do well to loose 1-2 pounds a month. I get frustrated about it but I am hoping it is normal. Funny thing is I get paranoid and think my stomach has stretched and that is why my weight loss has slowed down. I have lost 85 lbs. but was hoping to reach 100 by my one year anniversary date. I started out at 298.5 on a 5'8" large frame. I have a bad habit of comparing myself to others. I don't want this to have a negative impact on me but I have to admit it is scarry. I haven't come all this way for nothing. I do need reassurance. My husband is even concerned for me. I exercise 2-4 times a week and am trying hard to stick with the water and protein. Sometimes the protein thing is hard because I have to consume it in the source of food. I seem to have an aversion to the protein drinks. Can't seem to find one that I can stomach.

Me Too!! surgery 8/19/02. I'm 5/7" and started at 350 I'm down to 265. Honestly did not exercise much in the first months due to severe arthritis and an extremely cold winter. I also have a Very sedentary job. Been Plateaued for the at 270 for the past 3 - 4 mos. Forund I was grazing at night and took up knitting and scrapbooking. Also joined Power House Gym and the needs is stating to move again. 5 lbs in the past three weeks. I know the loss will be slower now and I'm no where near the 140 lb loss BTC thought I would be at but I still believe I will make it. Slow is good too! At least it's moving. At least thats what I'm trying to convince myself!

Yes! I had my r-n-y surgery on 8-20-02. Lost 12 lbs. right after surgery, then very slow after that. It's been 11 months and I have lost 77 lbs. I know it would've been faster with exercise, but have a lower back problem and walking would make it hurt. I've been exercising in my pool 4 times a week for 4 weeks now, and feel alot better. I'll lose 5 lbs really fast, then stabilize for 3 weeks......then down another 3 or 4..........then stabilize. I'm 53 and experiencing hot flashes (power surges!!) more and more. Dr. says that estrogen is stored in our fat cells.............so the more we lose.........! Hope this helps..................as long as we are losing and learning better eating habits............if it's slow, oh well, at least it's happening.

Hi there, i am a slow loser too....i was hoping to be to goal by one year ...8/14/02 but unfortunately that isn`t going to happen i am happy with my loss, but i have had to work hard to lose since the begining always adhering to a lowcarb diet and exercise...etc..... i went on vacation and went off my diet and gained 6 lbs in 2 weeks!!! so now i am lowcarbing again...sigh....not at all what i was expecting after surgery but no complaints here , i feel better , less backpain, and knee pain i can breathe and i fit in normal size clothes...so don`t be discouraged, we will lose it ..it just takes a little tweaking...lol open rny..8/14/02 start weight 261.5 current 158...start size 30/32...current size 11/12...... goal 119/126.... amount to lose...32/39lbs

Oh thank GOD, I'm not the ONLY one! I'll be a year out on the 30th of this month and so far, I've lost 112 lbs. but, only 5 lbs. since May! I was starting to get scared that this was it but, I'm resolving to go back to the gym tomorrow and start my protein shakes and get back to square one! Hopefully, that will help get the scales moving again. I go up and down between those 5 lbs. all the time. Thank GOD, I have not " gained " a significant amount of weight but, I still wanna be a LOSER!!!!! Thanks guys for making me realize I'm not alone..... Feel free to e-mail me if ya need some encouragement or, need someone to talk to who knows what you're going through!!! My e-mail is [email protected] Love and Hugs to you all and Thank you AGAIN!!! ?
