I had surgery in August 2002 also. I did very well until the past 6 months and I am up thirty pounds. That is scary for me but I just can't seem to get motivated. I know what to do I am just not doing it. I can eat anything and have been. No dumping, no throwing up. I have not had any follow up the past two years because I had my surgery on the West Coast and moved to Iowa. If you have any ideas how to get motivated and stop grazing please let me know.

good morning, i am glad to find someone else going through what i am. i am so far out its hard to find anyone like me, the glimmer has worn off and now i have to start working hard on losing weight again. i too have gained 30 pounds and i have some iideas on what to do, i had a long talk with my surgeon way back in january but i havent acted on my goals like i should. i have to go to work now , but i will send another message later tonight to start the discussion on what to do, i would like a motivation partner to talk this over and work with on getting this weight back off. have a great day.

Greg: I am 6 years post-op this August. I, too, am inching up in weight. I want to say that some of it is my age, which is 47 but I am afraid that I can not contribute it all to that. I am perimenopausal so I know that has some effect but my appetitie seems to have increased as well as some of my bad habits I feel like I need to start on a liquid diet again just to get myself on track. As for the abdominal pain, well be sure that you do not have some sort of bowel obstruction. This happened to me 2 years ago. I was having "gas pains". The ER doctor did an abdominal x-ray and told me I was "full of it". You know what that is. Anyway, 5 months later I was wreathing in bed and my husband broought me to the ER with such severe pain I could not straighten up. A CT scan, which should have been done with the first trip, revealed a bowel obstruction. I was taken immediately to surgery. Adhesions had formed around my large transverse colon and this resulted. I try to have a endoscopic exam at every three - four years to check the suture line in my stomach and just make sure everything else is okay. Call it paranoid but that has always been a concern of mine since having surgery. I am making doctor plans myself because I am concerned that I am becoming insulin resistent. I am so hungry all of the time and I crave carbohydrates. Also, I have issues with irritable bowel syndrome so have to get this checked so plan on doing the upper and lower at the same time. Hope this helps. Darlene
