Surgery Date: July 18, 2012
Barbara are you on any special diet before surgery? I'm on Day 14 of mine and I've lost 24 lbs. Some days I'm having a hard time with it and others it doesn't bother me too much. I must say that I'm getting to the point where I'm looking forward to everything being overwith.
For some reason I didn't think OHIP pays for the sleeve. I admit that I'm not that knowledgable about the sleeve simply because my surgeon and I really only talked about RNY which is what I'm having.
Take care, talk soon!

Hi Marianna,
Yes, I am... I have to do a 2 week Optifast liquid diet. This is the 2nd time I am doing it because.... I had a surgery date scheduled for June 1st, and the Quebec government was missing some documentation to proceed with it at the private clinic I was having it at... So it was cancelled (2 days before) and has been rescheduled for July 17th. so I did it the first time, lost 22 lbs in 12 days, and now I am on day 7, I had gainned back 3-4lbs from June, so I have lost 28.4lbs in total to date (including the June loss) so in 1 week I've lost about 10 lbs...
I'm aloud to eat low card veggies: cucumbers, broccoli, asperagus, spinach, lettuce ect.,.. and I'm suppose to have 4 shakes a day... I do 3 shakes a day.... less calories..
What diet are you doing?
Take care!

Wow Barbara....I can't imagine having a date set and then being cancelled at the last minute. It takes so much to get yourself emotionally psyched for a major event like that and then have it cancelled. Anyway I'm glad that your date has been rescheduled for you and that you didn't have to wait for too long. I am also on Optifast. I'm on Day 14 and I've lost 24 lbs so far. I have 4 shakes a day and I'm allowed some of the vegetables but not as many as you. I can have broccoli, green pepper, cucumber, lettuce, and celery, up to 2 cups a day. I can also have broth, clear tea/coffee, diet iced tea and crystal light. Some days I'm fine on the 4 shakes plus drinks and can do without a lot of vegetables but some days I'm so hungry!
So you're allowed to skip the 4th shake? I didn't realize that. Maybe I'll see if I can do 3 shakes a day for the last week that I'm on this. I want to try to get as much weight off as I can while I feel like I'm starving myself. Is there anything you're really missing or having a hard doing without? For me, I keep thinking about pizza...I think that's what I miss the most. Anything else I think I could turn down if it was put in front of me but not pizza.
Are you finding that your family and friends are supportive of your decision? My family and friends are supportive, thank goodness.

Hi Marianne,
It was devastating, but I try to see the positive in everything and figured it wasn't my time... I totally wanted to eat my emotions, but thought, maybe it was a test to see if I was ready.. so I didn't!
I'm not aloud broth, and I don't do tea or coffee! No ice tea but Crystal light is fine...
I find some days I only want 2 shakes! They didn't tell me I could do 3 shakes, but I know SEVERAL people who have had the surgery and did 3... so I just figured I'd see how I was and go from there it's been fine.
Ya I miss some foods, but nothing I haven't been able to resist.. I've been waiting for my surgery for 2 years, so I think I'm just sooo grateful!
Support.. hmm That's a tough one.... My husband is super supportive and we have been together for 13 years! Almost 1/2 my life! We have 3 beautiful children, the oldest is 6, so she knows I am having surgery, but we haven't gone into details... the other two are too young...
The two other people who I am most close with is my mom and sister. I think they want to be supportive, but I think they are jealous.. so it comes off differently.
I also have a best friend who is on the waiting list for surgery, she is supportive, but she hasn't gotten her call yet.... so I feel bad talking to her about it... and that's about it for support, other than the wonderful people I have met on her - who are fantastic.
Take care,
B

congrats on your surgery date Marianne i have my first appointment in edmonton on the 17th with a nurse i am so hoping the waiting list after seeing a nurse will go by fast , since im a diabetic also having high blood pressure im looking forward to a new start in life , i so hope everything goes well for you on the 18th which im sure it will and then you can finally get your new start as well
Thanks! Have they given you any idea as to how long the wait list might be? Although that doesn't always mean anything. They orginally told me that from the time the Bariatric Registry receives the referral from my doctor to the time of surgery would probably be 3 - 6 months. That for me would've been December to March. When I went for my appointment in January to see the dietician and social worker I fully expected to be given a date for February or March. However, I had lost my job back in November and when I told the team about it they said it wasn't good to have too many big things going on at once and wanted me to come back in March to see them again. I tried explaining that losing the job was a good thing (was glad to get out of the daily stress) and that this way I had the proper time to recover without having to worry about going back to work. It didn't matter, they wanted me to come back in March. Then for some reason even though my info was supposed to be passed to the surgeon's office it wasn't. So after all that I finally got my date for July 18.
I hope you don't have to go through any crap and can get your date soon. I think it will be interesting for all of us to compare notes after our surgeries!
