July 2nd - The date is set!

Hi everyone,

I'll be the first to start off the July 2012 surgery dates.  I had my pre-surgery consult on Friday and was able to get my RNY scheduled for July 2nd.  I can't believe it is scheduled.  Very excited, and a bit anxious at the same time. 

I'll be recovering in the hospital on Independence Day, July 4th, and am excited about the symbolic nature of independence from the weight that has "weighed" me down for so long!  Been trying to get the life-style changes under control these past couple months, but my wife and I will be traveling the month before surgery so I know I'll be tested to stay on track with the changes I've implemented.  

I wish everyone luck as they move forward as well!

Awesome!  When I first heard the date I was bummed because it felt so long away, but as the days go by it gets closer and closer! :)

well my surgeons office called me... the Surgeon is going to be out of town on July 2nd so they moved my surgery date to June 25th, so no longer a July Surgery!

Thats a good way to think about it, with independence.  I was so bummed icouldn't get it earlier (there was a date for may 29th available but my work requires me to be there until june 1st... and the july 2nd date was next available)

Awesome!  My original date they offered was in late May as well, but it wouldn't work with some scheduled things that couldn't be changed.  Sounds like we both got some more time to get those lifestyle changes down before surgery. :)

I too am scheduled for July 2nd.  I am having the Vertical Sleeve and i too felt like it was SOOOOO far away when i was told the date but i know the time will fly and i am EXCITED!  I finally feel like its real!

What led you to the Gastric Sleeve, as opposed to the RNY Bypass?  I'm still oscillating back and forth on the two.

I decided to go with the sleeve because i feel that its the least invasive.  I was not thrilled about having the intestines moved around.  I also picked the sleeve because one thing i hate is to feel hungry and with the sleeve the hormone Gherlin that the stomach produces that makes your feel hungry is mostly taken out.  Also i dont have to worry about Malabsorption. Those are the reasons that made me sure that this was the right surgery for me.  Good luck deciding and dont be afraid to ask questions.  Also do your research.  I googled alot when i was trying to decide what i wanted to do.
