Hi all, I am scheduled for RNY on July 5th.  I go in on Monday to see the NUT and get my 2 week preop diet.  Thank goodness it's only a low carb diet......Then I go in on Wednesday to see the surgeon one last time to go over what the plan is.  Then in two weeks, I will be starting my new way of life.  I'm nervous, scared, excited and any other emotion you could have.  I've been freaking out and eating like crazy, I've heard of people calling it the "Last Meal Syndrome" or something like that.  I've gained like 8 lbs since the last time I saw the Nut/Surgeon.  Good luck to everyone on their new life journey.

Hello July-ers!
My name is Louise and I'm scheduled for Roux-enY GB on July 5th.  I'm very excited and am starting my pre-op liquid diet next week. I've got to do 2 weeks of that prior to surgery and I think that is when it will really "hit me" that it is all really happening.

I tried to get the surgery 4 years ago but was denied by insurance. But 4 years later, different job and different insurance compay, I was finally approved.

Kaysmommy - have you tried any of the Bariatric Advantage protein powders or vitamins? Have any of you tried that brand? I've used a couple brands that I can get at supermarket but those really don't have enough protein. So I'm searching around for what to try. Thanks for the tip on Syntax Nectar Fuzzy Navel. Sounds good.

So good luck to all of us "July-ers!"

I've been doing protien drinks randomly for several months now.  I have used a few different brands but I am still experimenting   I've tried Resource Optisource High Protein Drink in chocolate and strawberry flavors...of course I am a chocoholic so I liked that better.  They come in nice 2 serving drink boxes and have a total of 24 grams of protein per drink box, so they are handy when you're on the go.  As far as protein powders, for the price I really like Super Advanced Whey Protein which you can get at Walmart or Meijers (that I know of).  Walmart has the best price online...buy 2 get 1 free, so $32 for 3 containers.  It comes in 5 different flavors and has 28 servings with 26 grams of protein each!

Another good option is greek yogurt.  YUM!  The protein varies by brand, but most have at least 12 grams protein per serving.
Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is.
DONT BE AFRAID TO FAIL......BE AFRAID NOT TO TRY!

My surgery is scheduled for July 5th. I'm ready to start the new phase of my  life and i'm anxious about the surgery.  I haven't attended any support group meetings but i plan on doing so next Monday.  Tomorrow i start replacing one meal with protein drinks.  How has it been for you with the drinks?  I bought some protein from GNC and have only added it to my Special K protein drinks.  I like the Special K but think they have too many carbs.  Any suggestions on getting more protein?

Topic: RE: What WLS goals do you have?
I have had a lot of goals pre-op. I too quit all soda, and caffeine. Sweet tea and Dr Pepper, oh how I miss them. I've been drinking crystal light, vitamin water zero, and lifesaver zero. Also decaff tea with splenda. Also getting at least 80g of protein a day, I have been doing that. I have been eating low carb meals. I'm already missing carbs, so today at the store I bought the new flatbread, and if you only eat half the serving it gives you the bread you are missing with a lot less carbs. I think I'm ready for this new way of life, and I am so excited my daughter will benefit so much from this healthier way of living.

YAY, more July buddies. Im so excited to have you all around. . I go on the 28th of June for my pre-op with my surgeon, then my day could be as close to a week after that. I'm getting so excited, but want the wait to be over already. I'm still on my low carb eating, with no caffeine, and protein. Well today I had to cheat, I just couldn't take being so good with my husband gone, and just bored during my daughters nap time. Other than that I have been tracking me food with a calorie counter app on my IPad, that is so awesome. I highly reccomend it, it even has protein powders in options of the food catagories. I've been drinking the syntax nectar fuzzy navel. The other isopure vanilla sweet drinks were making me start to gag. I got Unjury unflavoed in the mail yesterday, I tried to mix it with tea, and threw it out, it was white and icky, them I put it in SF butterscotch pudding, and I couldn't even tell it was there. I got a bunch of samples from Unjury and about time so far. I'm waiting till after surgery to figure out what my new tummy will like. I think mostly the nectar will be my friend, Ive been mixing it with crystal light and water and taste really good. I still am trying to figure out what drinks I will drink the week before surgery. I got a 4 pack of the EAS choclate and OhYeah Ready to drink ones to try. I also heard the premier pro tens are good.

Well I guess enough rambling, I've only had my 2 year old to talk to since my hubby is out of town. Have a great day everyone.

Hi Aimee, my name is Kelli and I have a tentative date set for July 13th for the sleeve.  I have done almost everything, I have my psych eval tomorrow and I have to have a scope next Wednesday.  My surgeon requires the scope, to make sure I don't have any hernias hiding I guess.  I'm excited but I am also getting super nervous.  I'm sure that is normal.  What kind of  protein shake did you find?  We have to do a 10 day pre-op diet, and I just got all my vitamins to start taking that they recommended.  I'm not sure what protein shake I'm going to go with, they gave me some samples to try.  Well I wish you luck with your journey and look forward to hearing from you.
