Just checking in to see how you are all doing?

Me: I am doing fine. No complaints at the moment. I am weighing in at 145. I am 10 lbs away from my personal goal. My weight fluctuates 5 lbs any given day. I can weigh 150 one day and 145 the next. I guess it could be water weight. I am eating better than I was. I still need to get my portions under control. I am not eating bread, rice, pasta or potatoes. I am eating meat, veggies, fruit, and lots of yogurt and cottage cheese. I drink a protein shake daily and am keeping up with my supplements. I am hoping something will kick start me into losing my last 10 - 15 lbs. But somehow no matter what I am just hovering at 145. I am happy with it though. I am not complaining at all! I love the new me. I do want to get my arms, thighs and tummy taken in so I don't look like a sharpei dog anymore with all my saggy skin. Exercise has not been what it should be! Hoping my appt on Friday will motivate me to get my butt moving again!

How is everyone else doing? Let's put 1 year post op pics up of ourselves on our blogs. I think before and after pics would be great to see how we have transformed in 1 year!

And it's changed my life in ways I couldn't even comprehend a year ago.  I've lost over 100 lbs.  My blood sugar is in the normal range without any medication.  (I used to take 5 shots and 5 pills every day!)  I take 2 meds now instead of 15.  I graduated from a two year degree program and will be working towards a bachelor's degree in the fall.  After many years on social security disability, I got a full-time job that I love.  I feel great.  No complications.  No problems.  My weight loss did slow pretty quickly.  I got 5 solid months, and then it sort of trickled to 3 lbs a month.  But it's been a consistant 3 lbs a month, and I'm still going in the right direction.  I still need to lose at least 40 lbs, - 62 to have a normal BMI.  The biggest change?  Assertiveness and self-esteem.  I feel good about myself for the first time in a long time.  I can go out in public and blend in.  People aren't rude to me.  That goes a long way to making a person feel good about themselves.  I highlighted my hair.  Got contact lenses.  I'm wearing nice clothes.  I've got a major issue with hanging skin around my middle.  Hopefully I can figure out how to get the money together for my 20% of the surgery cost.  That's the only negative.  99.9% of the experience has been positive.  Life is good, and that's what it's all about.

You look beautiful!

Milan? I'm so jealous of you. (In a good way) Isn't it miraculous that these opportunities have presented themselves to you since you took the big risk to have this surgery.

Facing you fears really does open up your world. OK world, I'm ready for my trip to Milan or Brussels, or London . . .

Have a great time in Milan, I'll be thinking of you next September. What kind of work do you do?

I'm thinking of applying for a semester abroad in spring of 2011. (Yes, I'm a 51 year old college sophomore) I would love to live in Europe for the experience. With the job market the way it is, I may as well get some more schooling under my belt until things improve. I never would have considered this before my WLS. I couldn't even fit in a plane seat. Now the world is at my door step. Not in my wallet, but it's knocking on the door.

I'm with you girl! I have not been able to get on the exercise train either. I'm almost embarrassed when people inquiry me about my weight loss. It's not having surgery, that doesn't bother me to talk about at all. It's when people expect for me to have some fantastic exercise routine that I've developed in order to have lost 205 lbs. so far. (54 lbs to goal)

I tell them I walk from point A to point B. I'm not doing anything other than living my "normal" life. I have not gone out of my way to deliberately exert myself to burn calories. I'm sure I'm moving a lot more than I used to, I can now mow my own lawn, etc. I'm going to beach and be more active in that way. I too need to work a fun activity into my life in order to tone up and strengthen myself.

Hiking sounds like a great way to get some exercise. I could do that. You'll think I'm nuts because I haven't done anything yet, but I'm really interested in learning how to use a sea kayak. I see myself with a kayak on top of my car by this time next year. Any kayakers out there?

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. What a tragedy. And you end up breaking your arm too. What are the odds?

I'm very happy about your success with your surgery. I too never thought I would have lost so much weight in a year and am enjoying my life again. Bless you and your family.

Congratulations! I know you must feel good. I've been waiting myself to get out of the "Obese" range on my Wii Fit scale too. I've been hanging on the cusp between  "obese" and "over weight" for the last 2 months. I'm hoping to be there in the next month. Enjoy your success! Sounds like a good reason to treat yourself with a non food item to celebrate ; )
