Topic: RE: The food demons that come along with the holidays.
The first holidays were tough to get others to understand that you just can't tolerate what you used to. I think it was roughest on my husband. We used to try to get to both families for dinner on Thanksgiving but by sitting # 2 we were miserable. So, we rotated and we would have dinner at one family's and then desert at the other.
After surgery, it wasn't a problem for me to eat at both, no desert unless I brought something low fat and sugar free and after all, I need to eat lunch and dinner...he was miserable!
Now we are back to the meal at one and desert at the other (sugar free of course). I can make just about anything sugar free at this point, I even make sugar free sugar pie--an old Pennsylvania dutch recipe.
I have a great sugar free low fat egg nog recipe that I love...add a little ginger brandy or rum if you'd like.

I had my first drink just before Christmas 2006 so I was just over 5 months out. I had some homemade wine and the alcohol content was a little higher than normal (more like a port). It made me immediately intoxicated and then within 20 minutes I was completely sober again.
This feeling seemed to last for about the 1st year, 1 glass, nice buzz, did o.k. I had to drink very very slowly.
Then I seemed to build up a little tolerance and I could indulge a little more. That last about a year.
This past year though, I seem to have developed a lot of changes. Gravity took effect again and everything dropped own. I gained about 10 lbs but I went from a size 4 to a size 8, no change on top. I noticed a littler intollerance to carbs and wine as well as any sugary type alcohols like brandy or rum. I just started to avoid those.
Recently though I am intollerant to all alcoholic beverages. Two kind souls reminded me of that nasty hypoglycemia. It never dawned on me that the feeling (jittery, almost buzzed 4-5 hours after a drink, dry mouth) could be low blood sugar. Since I suffered from hypoglycemic episodes before surgery, who would have thought that 3 1/2 years later and at a healthy BMI, it could happen again.
Thanks to those of you *****sponded!
Just take it easy with the alcohol, try it at home, and don't over-indulge. The hangover is a killer and I can't tolerate the fatty, high carb foods that used to make me feel better.

A little wine in church during communion made me feel sick. So, No, I'm not drinking alcohol yet. I miss my wine though.

I had a shot of Vodka on halloween and it did not sit well. I was immediatly hot and clamy so I tried to flu**** out with water but I drank it too fast and everything came back up.
I have had a sip of beer here and there and the gass I get is just not worth it to me.
I say - go for it.... this surgery is about life-style changes not giving up stuff forever. I would reccomend you try first at home - just in case your body isn't really ready for it yet.
Enjoy!!

I know there are tons of different opinions on this topic and I just got back from a fundraiser where they had beer there and the folks I was there with did a few shots (slippery nipples) at the bar. One of the girls who had a couple shots, also had GB surgery, a year ago this past August and to be honest, I was a little jealous because she was drinking and I felt like I couldn't or that it was too soon?
Have any of you had any alcoholic beverages since your surgery date? What instructions has your surgeon given you as being allowed to enjoy an adult beverage? This gal said she had her 1st drink roughly 3 months after she had her surgery.
So I'm just curiuos..have any of you indulged yet and how did it go?

Topic: RE: I'm going to start wearing a hair net . . .
That seems to be the general consensus, but I'm getting real close to buyin a wig for myself. I'm really noticing the thinning of my hair in my bangs area and on the top of my head where my part is. My part has gotten wider. Ugh, time to pull out the hat I bought recently.
