In praise of exercise!
Yep, you heard right! The lazy I-hate-exercise girl has caught the exercise bug! But no gym for me! I have discovered the great outdoors! I am obsessed with walking and hiking! My sister and I started a walking challenge in the beginning of June. If we walk 10 miles we each get 2 hours of childcare from the other person! It has been awesome! I have been using my 2 hours kid-free to go on hikes with my hubby! This week I think I am going to go to Starbucks and read the Twilight novella, but maybe not. I have been hiking 2-3 days a week in our local mountains. Yesterday I went with a girl from my work up to Forest Falls and we hiked up to the falls. It was gorgeous! I have noticed some change in my clothes but not too much movement on the scale. I'm sure it will start soon! I am thinking about doing a 3 mile walk from my sister's to my mom's before our BBQ. Today is the first day of the weekly challenge and it is nice to start with a long walk. My old faithful walking shoes were stolen along with my gym bag from my car last week so I invested money in a $100 pair of shoes (gasp! But I am worth it!). I have never bought good workout shoes and they really feel better. The next thing I need to work on is weight training. I mostly need to work my arms. I am not sure how much it will help the bat wings but the extra calorie burn would be great! I just need to find a quick and easy arm workout that I can do daily. I'm sure I could come up with something! Sat is my surgeriversary! I can't believe it! I would love to get to 175 by then, but we will see! I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July! So very different from last year! Be safe!
I tell them I walk from point A to point B. I'm not doing anything other than living my "normal" life. I have not gone out of my way to deliberately exert myself to burn calories. I'm sure I'm moving a lot more than I used to, I can now mow my own lawn, etc. I'm going to beach and be more active in that way. I too need to work a fun activity into my life in order to tone up and strengthen myself.
Hiking sounds like a great way to get some exercise. I could do that. You'll think I'm nuts because I haven't done anything yet, but I'm really interested in learning how to use a sea kayak. I see myself with a kayak on top of my car by this time next year. Any kayakers out there?
