Is anyone else having problems with their old family doctor?

I am going through a very strange experience. My old family doctor is very resentful of my WLS surgeon.

I was shocked yesterday day (I didn't let him know), but he was referring to my WLS surgeon as "God's Gift to Mankind" in a derogatory manner. He is obviously resentful of my admiration of my surgeon. To be honest, my surgeon has been a lot more attentive to my needs then my family doctor ever has been. His punishment to me is to reduce my pain medication, which I have been taking for 10+ years. I have a blood clotting disorder and take coumadin, so I'm limited in what pain meds I can take.

My family doctor told me that since I lost weight, I don't need to take as much pain medicine. However, my arthritis, back, and vein pain has not changed. What was once under control and manageable is now causing me major discomfort and making it unable for me to sleep for more than 4 hrs. per night.

Has anyone else had issues with their family doctor since their weight loss?

I feel ya... my DOC gave me problems in the beginning in signing for approval for the surgery took him 6 mos. to sign.. since I have a HMO... He was saying stuff like you gonna have skin hanging everywhere.. and you are not gonna lose a lot of weight.. He even told me that he would put on the new insulin regimen which helps you lose weight.. ARE YOU NUTS!! I went three mos. ago for check-up all the nurses said I looked good, and were amazed at the weight loss and they did my blood pressure it was 120/ 81 he said that he would have to increase my blood pressure pill.. WHAT THE HECK?? 120/80 is a perfect blood pressure I was consider high normal at 120/81... the DOC get paid by the medicine companies by getting you on medicine that you will be stuck on for the rest of your life making them & DOC rich... I had to stop taking the blood pressure medicine because my pressure dropped to low I no longer needed.. so how can he be made at the surgery working.. it all politics.. they want you sick to stick to you on medicine for life.. The last visit last month he didn't even remember me.. and I no longer have to be weighted on special scale for overweight people.. and he's wrong on the loss SKIN. if you work out it wont be soo loose.  Theu will be alright I feel that there is always a alternative to the negative.

Hi Lisa, Thanks for your comments. I'm going to see my surgeon at the University of Illinois Medical Center this Friday. I'm going to tell him what my doctor is doing and ask for help. I'd rather drive to Chicago and get excellent medical help then put up with my country doctor's ego. Everything else in my life is going great. It's weird that my family doctor is screwing things up for me. I don't need this unneccesary drama.

How is planning for you move to Chicago going? Where will your new job be located? Do you know what neighborhoods you'd like to move too. I have a couple of girlfriends from school who might be able to suggest some good places for you to consider. I can ask them if you'd like. Chicago is going to be so different from LA for you. Buy some long johns, you'll need them next winter. (just kidding) (kind of) It can get really cold and snowy here. Have you ever experienced snow?

My life is now packed in boxes as we speak!!... I was hoping you could help me out in that gray area Laura..my duty station is COOK county so I do not want to stay in the city but somewhere out of Chicago?? How is Naperville, Aurora, I think its called Elberville.. I might be saying it wrong.. I like these areas.. can you send me some info to some nice towns no more than 25 miles out of Chicago.. Yeah, mine was a real jerk.  So, you know what I did?  I fired him!  Think about it---he works for YOU.  You pay him!  So, why wouldn't you want him to do a good job?  Ask family and friends for a referral... they might have someone that they love that will work out much better for you!  You don't have to take the snyde remarks, and uncaring comments!  You are worth so much more than that!

You are right on the money! I plan to find a new doctor. This is crazy. You are so right about the snyde remarks and uncaring comments. Unbelievable. He was a real jerk to me.
