Weird foody things happening..or not.

I've was sitting at the computer all day yesterday doing homework. Not thinking, I ate a bunch of sugar free Werthers candies. Um. Not good. I ran for the bathroom soon after and for hours afterward. No dumping symptoms - just the bathroom issues. I have never had a dumping episode as folks here describe it.  I lost 2lbs! Sugar alcohol I'm thinking. The weird thing is that this morning i went thru the drive thru at McDonald's on the way to the laundry (washer busted till I can pay a repair man) and ate a fruit & yogurt parfait - the whole thing. No problems at all. If I were going to dump, shouldn't a whole fruit & yogurt parfait have brought it on?

People have different tolerances for dumping, so who knows.

I haven't tested my dumping tolerance with sugar yet..and I don't plan on it.  Just having my short brush with Type II diabetes was enough for me to lay off the sugar for life.  I don't dump on fatty things or starchy things, though..I know that for sure.

I was Type II before surgery, and I've been without meds ever since. I find just a bite of a sweet will tide me over, and the doctor says that's ok as long as my sugars are fine and I stay under 15 grams. I really have a problem with starchy foods though because I could never stop at just a bite or two pre op. I'm still avoiding those.

Joanna,

I too was curious to know what the nutritional value was on the whole fruit and yogurt parfait and this is what I found.   http://nutrition.mcdonalds.com/nutritionexchange/nutrition_f acts.html
fat grams look great, I accidentally deleted the cholesterol column title  :(  The sugars at 21 though, seem a bit high, but that's a good question though about the difference between sugar vs. sugar alcohols.  There's so much to learn.

Thanks for posting this! I see that without the granola it has 19 grams of sugar. (I don't eat the granola). I aim for 15 or less grams, so if I ever eat another I will leave a couple bites in the bottom of the cup.

you're welcome - makes sense to me.  I'm really glad that these companies are posting their nutritional facts online these days.  Helps those of us who care about these pesky little details  :-)

I think it could have been sugar alcohol... I eat a protein bar that had <1g of sugar alcohol and I was in the restroom all day... LOL by the good side like you said I let go of 2 1/2 LBS!! LOL But that wasn't a good thing my GUTS were soar for 3 days... I think your food tolerances could not eat the Werthers... Event the sugar free syrups that manny of us use in our protein shakes have so sugar alcohol.. so be careful with htose too.
I hope you feel better..

Definitely sugar alcohols with the Werther's.  Usually I see it written on the SF candies about not eating to many because it will cause laxative effects or something like that.

I don't know about the parfait.  People dump on different things at different times.
