Finally feeling better!!!
I have been having problems with keeping food down and feeling nauseated for just over three weeks now. I was loosing weight like crazy, (I had my surgery on 7/15/09 and have lost 65 pounds) but not taking in any nutrition, so it's not a healthy way to loose it. I couldn't even drink protein shakes, they wouldn't stay down. My surgeon sent me to have x-rays to see if I had a blockage, the radiologist said the dye went through and he could not see any blockages. Then I was sent to an Internal Specialist who scheduled me for an Upper GI endoscopy, to see what the heck was going on. He said he thought it was one of the following: 1)An Ulcer (which would be treated with meds). 2)Scar tissue putting pressure on the opening and making the opening smaller (he said if this happens, it's usually the 2nd or 3rd month after surgery) 3)Food lodged in the opening causing partial blockage.
I had the procedure done this morning and he found scar tissue was causing the opening to become too small. (He measured the opening at 5mm, about the size of a pea) He then inserted a "ballon" and it was "inflated" to stretch the opening, it was done numerous times until the opening measured 10mm. Overall the procedure lasted about 45 minutes. I was sedated so don't really remember too much of it.
When I got home the only thing I wanted was my bed! I got up about 2 hours after sleeping and had a salad with chicken breast and light raspberry vinaigrette, it was wonderful!! It didn't hurt going down and it stayed down!!! I am still a little scared with eating right now, but hopefully that will change soon.
The doctor did tell me that it is very common to have to have this procedure done twice, but after that, it should be ok. At least the next if this happens, I will know what's going on! Sorry to be so long winded but just wanted to let you know what happened to me in case anyone else is going through this.
