Feel like the only one
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the whiney post! But sometimes I feel like I am the only one having these issues. Thanks for listening/reading.
I had my rny on July 14th. I think I am recovering pretty well. No major problems but...I read on here what everyone is eating and drinking. I try really hard to get all of my protein in but I just can't do it. My dr. doesn't suggest protein shakes, he uses double milk (add a 1/3 cup powered milk to skim milk). Even if I could drink protein shakes I don't think I would be able to get it down. I drink about 4 oz of a double milk and that is all I can fit in.
I'm having the same issue with water. Not enough throughout the day. I just get this achey/full feeling in what I would call the upper part of my pouch. Anyone else get this? Also, I am on smooth foods (not pureed yet) so I eat about 1/4 cup of a cream of something soup or a 1/4 cup yogurt two times a day. Not so much compared to what others are eating.
Also, I am so afraid of dumping I am scared to add many new foods. I go for my 4 week appt. on Thursday of this week and I will address these concerns with my NUT. Do any of you get the hungry feeling? I'm not sure if it is head hunger or real hunger but I do get that sort of feeling. Probably because I'm not getting in enough proteins or water. OK done with the "me" post. Just wondering if others are going through this too. Thanks

Girl, you are in the right place! It's tough, much tougher than I thought it would be. I have only been drinking RTD shakes until the last few days. I have been trying to drink shakes from powder and apperantly I cannot tolerate Whey. It makes my stomach hurt really bad (and it tastes like ASS). I am so sick of the soft foods. I can only eat maybe 3 tbsp. at a time. I only eat 3 or 4 times a day and then I have a shake and some isopure. I sometimes feel like I am hungry but I think it might be acid? Just do your best and it will get better. You are still really soon out and it just takes time and it seems like there are set backs. I have days were I can eat and tolerate things ok and then other days where water is a chore. Good luck and I hope things get better for you!
I have more issues with drinking than eating. I do get an achy feeling in my upper pouch (or whatever) when I drink water. I think part of it is I'm use to drinking it fast and I need to slow down. I don't feel hungry at all but get to a point where I know it's time to fuel my body.
The more protein you get in, the faster you will heal and the stronger you will feel.

shoot - the part I'm having difficulty with is trying to take those monster calcium citrate pills or any larger pill for that matter with "just a sip" of water. I take more than one sip, they're difficult to swallow for sure. I'm gettin' em but dang, it's not easy :-)
as of today, I've lost 16 lbs since surgery date :-)

What I do to get my protein in is I get these protein bullets from vitamin shop. You can get them lots of places though. They're fruit flavored syrups that are only a few ounces and have 42 grams of protein. I put one in a 32 ounce container then fill it up all the way with water. I use the grape flavor and to me there's no aftertaste whatsoever and there's no protein taste or anything. It's great. I'm able to get that in and a glass of milk and some apple juice and more water each day by using this timer program I got for my computer. It's called "secs" and I set it to make a noise every 3 minutes so I can sip then. This way I don't have to worry about overdoing it or forgetting to sip. Without it I have problems getting in all the liquids cause I get distracted and forget. There's another handy timer I heard about called gymboss that I heard can do the same thing i think and it's portable and can even go on a vibrate mode... I haven't tried it yet though so I can't say if it's good or not. I do think a timer is the best way to do it though. I've done sooo much better with my liquids since I got one. Good luck guys!
My NUT told me that we only use 11g of those protein bullets...not 42g.
I'm having a hard time getting in all of my water/liquids. I'm up til 12 or 1 trying to finish my 64oz. I eat popsicles, eat soup, broth, juice, vitamin water...it's just hard after cup #4 or so. Protein is getting a little easier...I suppose the swelling is going down some. I wonder how long it stays swollen?

That's probably assuming you try to drink the whole thing in one go. As you cen't absorb too much protein at one time. I water it down though to make it 32 ounces and drink it throughout the day. There should be no difference between that and sipping a normal protein shake. My way just doesn't taste powdery or anything and helps me get half my liquids in at the same time.
