Anybody have to do a enema the day before surgery?

I saw this on another board where her surgeon required her to do and enema the night before?  OMG... I don't remeber hearing that or reading it in my packet.  What say you?

I did not have to do any bowel prep or special shower.  If your packet didn't say to do this - DONT.  If you've been on a liquid pre-op diet, there isn't much there anyway.

I had to drink two bottles of that horrible mag. citrate.  I think I would have preferred the enema.

One bottle of magnesium citrate for me.   

I had to drink the mag. cit. and then drink lots and lots of water.  They told me that the next morning, if there was even a hint of solids in bm, to do enema... otherwise I should be clean.

so what did I do.... drank drank drank, drank mag. cit at 4pm... drank drank drank.. took 4 pills.. cant remember name, they all came in the Fleet Prep pak.. drank drank drank.. Next morning b4 heading to hospital [surg. at 6am] bm consisted of fluid and like powder.. ?? was worried so did enema too.   But no effect.  Guess I was clean.

One bottle of Mag. Citrate did the trick.

As you can tell by all the different responses, each doctor is different.  Look at your pre-op instructions and do what your doc wants.
