So today was the first day of my pre-op diet.  I need to have a protien shake for breakfast and lunch with a serving of fruit and 4oz of lean cooked protien and 1 serving of veggies for dinner.
Breakfast and lunch is easy.  I'm at work so I am busy and not really thinking about food.  But after work before dinner is the absolute worst!!!  I am hungry or maybe just bored.  I am so afraid of failing and if I can't do this simple diet how am I going to change my life?  How is this WLS going to help me if I can't stop thinking of food?  Just needed to vent or maybe get someone that is going through or has gone through this to slap me and get my mind right...lol.

Good Luck.  I start mine on Sunday.  I know it is going to be hard, because I am going out of town.  So I have to drag all of my protein to Washington.

Just stick to lean protein and a low carb type veggie.   As long as you're not eating a ton of carbs, your body will get use to it and you won't feel so hungry in a few days.   Drink water when you feel hungry or bored, it will fill you up and satisfy your hunger.

turkey burger patty has 30 grams of protein
grilled chicken breast
fish-- salmon, tuna, etc...
green beans
salad

You can do it!  The first three days are the hardest then you'll feel much better.

When I did my pre-op diet it was 2 weeks of shakes, bars and opti-fast tomatoe soup once a day!  I didn't get anything else to eat..........Isn't it funny how Drs. are different?  I would have preferred your diet!  I have found lately that food isn't as "important" to me now-it is actually easier to plan meals and being satisfied after eating a little bit is GREAT!!!  Hang in there and you will do just fine.

my preop diet is only 1 week but I can only have full liquids.  anything that can fit through a straw.

You are dong great. The first and second day were extremely hard for me to. I'm on 4 Atkins Advantage Shakes a day. I'm on day four and from the third day on, everything gets easier. I've been struggling with the same thoughts "I can't believe I'm going to get WLS and I can't even eat healthy for a day, etc." To me that is my addiction talking. You can do it! I'm rooting for you!
I live in Houston, TX and teach elementary school.

Thanks everyone for your replies and words of encouragement.  I am on day 3 and it isn't so bad.  I have been trying to do things so I am not bored and thinking of all the yummy stuff in the kids snack cabinet...lol.  This weekend is going to be a test.  No work.  No staying busy for 10 hours of my day...eeek.  I did get a few scrapbooking projects that will hopefully fill some time.  And I can do some deep cleaning that I've been putting off.  I realize that I am a bored eater and as long as I am busy my mind is not thinking about food.  And yes food is an addiction.
