A nervous wreck pretty much sums up my feelings. I am scheduled for July 9, I am so close to talking myself out of this. My husband is of the opinion that it is too dangerous. It didn't help that I stumbled across the Memorial postings and saw a patient of my Dr(Clements at UAB) who had passed away from complications. I am not even excited(to sick with nerves), I will save that for after the surgery and the first pounds come off and I see that I am not going to have complications. I will be thinking of all of you and wish you the very best.

Congratulations on your surgery. I am scheduled for GBS on July 9. I wish you the best. I have to give myself a shot once a week for a form of rheumatic arthritis that I have. The medication which is called Enbrel burns as it goes through your system but I have noticed that it bothers me less as time goes by(been taking these shots since Dec.) I have learned that an ice pack placed on the site before and after the shot seems to help. I know this is not the same med you must take but hope it helps. I have learned that I do not like to give myself a shot in my abdomen area, it seems to be more uncomfortable than if I did it in my thigh, is it possible that someone in your life could give it to you, might be easier to handle if you didn't have to do it. My mom had to take those shots of blood thinner stuff after colon cancer surgery, I gave them to her because she absolutely hated needles of any kind. I also had to check her blood sugar because she wouldn't, she said she didn't dread it as bad if she didn't have to do it. She had medicare and they would have had home health come and give her the shots if she couldn't or didn't have anyone to do it for her. Maybe you could ask about that. I guess it depends on your insurance and cir****tances. If you don't mind my asking what type of surgery are you having? My Dr has never mentioned any kind of blood thinner to me, is it only in certain cir****tances? He did give me a prescription for some type of prevacid to prevent ulcers. Thanks!!!! Best wishes!!!!! Dena

I found this week that one of the medication I need to take post-op is a blood thinner. The kicker is it's by injection. I hate needle. Anyone else have any advise that has been through the same. Is it easy. Where do you have to make injection? Thanks.
