Topic: RE: Pre-op diet impossible
I've been really surprised that everyone seems to be on a liquid-only preop diet with this surgery. My lap RNY is scheduled for July 16 and on Monday I began my strict high protein diet (basically Atkins). This is per the instructions of my surgeon, who is Chief of Surgery at a level 1A facility, a Center of Excellence... there are only 26 of these in the entire country, so they know what they're doing
He instructs this of all his numerous patients with awesome results. He says that this shrinks the liver down and puts the body into ketosis completely adequately. Obviously everyone should follow their own surgeon's instructions, but I have just been surprised that no one else seems to be doing this. Hang in there... it'll be over before you know it! Don't be too hard on yourself, perfection is overrated.

Topic: RE: July 7th Surgery Date - nerves are getting the best of me.
I'm also July 7 at Northwestern in Chicago. I think the doubts are always there but so many people I talk with are so happy with the results. RNY for me. Since I started this they tell me I have sleep apnea (the CPAP machine seems to be a big bother to me) though I've had no symptoms and seem to sleep worse with the machine. Also some blood problems I didn't know of before and my polio history seems to have beena problem. I've had diabetes several years and hoep that gets better. I also agree the surgeyr is to get my health on track. I am sure we'll do well, seems too late to turn back! Best to you,
Nathan

Topic: RE: SURGERY DATE JULY 9TH
We were all scared and excited at the very same time and those are some pretty strong emotions to work together, but so worth it...All will go fine and you will be so happy you did this. Get well fast and do as you are told to for a faster recovery.
Topic: RE: My Surgery is July 7th...I am nervous and my spouse
I think that my husband was nervous too, but he never told me that. He was just supportive like yours was and went to support groups, BUT when it comes closer to the time, we all get more nervous. You will be fine and it is SO SO worth! Say your prayers and go for it, God will take care of you.

That's me. I do things no one expects me to do. The few things I am too self conscous to do I manage to veil with other excuses. No one is the wiser. I've always put myself out there in the middle of it all. But, as you stated it is frustrating when people treat you as if you were invisible. I can't wait to take back control of my life.

It is so comforting to be here at OH. I feel like everyone here knows exactly what I am going thru.Truely a place to fit in, and be accepted. In all my years of being overweight (all of my adult life) I have tried to never, ever let my weight stand in my way. But it was always an uphill battle. No matter how much experience or education I had, I still had to prove myself worthy. Most of the time people treat you like you are invisable, they talk around you or past you. But I always managed to make myself out there for everyone to see, which made people uncomfortable. Oh well. Wait till they see me now!! Still me. Soon to be healthier, and thinner, but still me. Definitely not invisable.

My surgery is July 11th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I'm getting a VSG. I'm pretty nervous, but also excited.
Good luck to all you other July dates!
