Topic: Please help :BCBC nj direct 15 question; Anyone from NJ I'm waiting for approval
I am waiting for approval and I am just a little nervous. My BMI is just a little low 35.9 and I am 95 llbs overweight. I have the on-set of diabetes w/o medication, asthma, joint and knee pains. I have to do a sleep study and I heard it takes 2 weeks to get the result( no idea what to expect). My surgery is schduled in 11 day, will I be done in time or will they push my date back? I have my blood work this week and it so close to my surgery. Is there a reason doctors wait so close to surgery to ask the insurance for the approval? Can anyone tell me what to expect when I go to do my blood work?

Topic: Boy o boy, where do I begin?
Ok, its been awhile since I've been on here... I sort of lost track of my goals last year, and I lost my insurance coverage for about 8 months, and didn't get a band adjustment for about a year! So you know how that goes!! I've pretty much sabatoged all my hard work... now I have to start all over again!! I finally got my insurance back, and I just got my band adjusted last Tuesday.. but I'm already screwing up. My surgeon put me back on the liquid diet and said that by my next appointment in 8 weeks, I should be down as much as 30 pounds!!! I just can't control my appetite. I eat even when I'm not even hungry! Plus, my family doesn't really help much either. I told them I have to be on a liquid diet, and they are constantly asking me if I want to eat this or that.. usually high fat, fried foods. I don't want to be rude to them, but I don't know any other way. I can never say no. I wake up with good intentions but by the middle of the day,.. I self destruct. I don't know if this is normal behavior, or if anybody else is going through this. All I know is, I wish there was a way I could stop it. I really want to get back on track and get healthy. Does anybody have any advice about sticking to the liquid diet?? I bought some protein shakes, but I haven't had success with not eating after I drink them .
. I've thought about asking my doctor if they could put me on an appetite supressant like phentermine or something,.. but I'm really not crazy about taking diet pills. Does anybody have any suggestions about how to keep myself motivated?? I need all the help I can get, so any advice would be great!!!!! God bless everyone!!!

Topic: RE: My Surgery is July 7th...I am nervous and my spouse
I had my surgery June 24th. I was also floored by the comments of you.. not you.. I was 5'4 and 256 pounds.. yeah me. But then I realized that change is hard for people they don't know what to expect. My family was so worried about surgery. Then I reminded them.. I run a 6% chance of co morbitiy issues that aren't resolveable. Plus insurance companies aren't giving this away so it's not like you walked in and said... sure one weight loss surgery. Facts and stats is what worked for my family. I also told them I understand their fears but I need to do this and if they can't support me I need to know it now so I don't go to them during the recovery.
Just my thoughts.

Jackie, I'm just about to have dinner. Barbecued and almost burned down the house! I guess I'm a bit nervous. Lots of friends have called but I don't have much to say. I want to get on the other side of tomorrow. My daughter from Southern Indiana is here with me, and my partner is here and will be with me throughout (just retired last month). So I feel well supported. I've heard from several folks that they had none or little pain. Yes won't forget the CPAP-- had almost 5 1/2 hours on it last night-- that is a new record or nearly. I'm sure we'll be chatting soon. They say 2-3 days so I hope to be home by Thursday. Will check in soon.
Hang in!!!

Nathan,
Just got back from a family gathering - wedding gift opening (my youngest daughter got married 3 weeks ago) and birthday celebrations. I am starving right now - had a small bite of cake w/o icing and some berries - on clear liquids now - this too will pass. I'm a little nervous, but still know it's the best thing for me - just got an email from one of my former adult students (I teach one class @ IVY Tech) and she had the surgery done on June 25th - she has lost 21 lbs so far - said the surgery was easy and had no pain - that's the stuff you & I need to hear!!! Don't forget to take you CPAP w/you tomorrow - my middle daughter, the respiratory therapist reminded me today not to forget. Will your family be there to support you? All 3 of my daughters and my husband will be there for me. Keeping you in my prayers until I hear your success story - just think, when I'm coming out of surgery, you will be going in. I'll email as soon as I get home and feel up to chatting. Wishing you a world of success - we are on a journey of a lifetime and remember God will take care of us - just put it in His hands. Jackie
Topic: RE: Insurance for Plastic Surg.
Keli,
Im not sure what BCBS's guidlines are but I do know that for most insurances they wont pay for a full blown tummy tuck or other surgeries however they will pay for the less of the surgeries (I forget the appropriate names)and thats only after you have supplied proof that you need them. For example, for the one that is like a tummy tuck you have to take photos and go to the doctors to show that you have had rashes, boils,or other ailgments that would make you need to have the excess skin removed. It cant be for cosmetic reasons only.OR atleast thats what I was told....hope that helps you.
