Topic: I Really "NEED" Some healpful Advice...ASAP!!!
I am 6 years Post-Op and I'm finally having my Abdominalplasty done on Aug.1st. But I am a smoker and the urge for a cigarette is killing me. I have 5 days till surgery, in which I know I needed to stop atleast 2 wks before surgery, but its just so DAMN hard for me. I did for my Gastric Bypass but it seems harder for me to do it this time around, dunno why. Anyone who had to go through this please give me some advice on how you had to quit in time to have your plastic surgery done, I could use some right now. Im trying so hard, Im even thinking about not eating anything, after all the urge is really strong after you eat a meal. Please HELP!!!
Thanx, Shinneathal

Hi Shannon,
Why makes yourself crazy. Take the pain meds, that's what they are there for. I used Tylenol #3, has some codeine in it, an RX, works well. The first week is the worst, it gets better, I know this. My lap RNY was 4/30/08 and I felt just like you do now. At three months out I have lost 64 lbs and feel good. Next week will be better. The week after even better. Stay hydrated. Relax and rest. Take the pain meds, especially for sleep. Hold a pillow over your belly, it can help if you cough or sneeze, laugh, etc. This light pressure can even help. We have all been where you are now. It is so worth it!
Good luck and feel good.
Andrea

Hey guys. It has been a long time since I've been on here. My name used to be Rachel Sullivan, but I am now Rachel Buckley. I would like to hear from some of ya'll and how you are doing.
Topic: RE: don't go to Pondarosa
I don't understand why you think a business needs to give you specail treatment giving you a kids meal or honor any type of card requesting they do so. If you are expecting "special treatment" from a business because you have had the bypass are you expecting "special treatment" from the business because you were heavy? If a restaurant gives you a discount due to being bypassed should the buffet charge extra because you were fat? Should the airlines charge you more because the fat person causes them to use extra fuel? Should the surgeon charge extra to the patient wanting the bypass because they are more than 100 pounds over weight? Do you see where this is going? You cannot have it both ways. Order want you want from the restaurant, eat what you want of it, take the rest home or leave it, that simple. You deserve no extra special treatment because you were bypassed nor did you deserve to get extra treatment for being fat.

Hi Shannon -- Sorry you're feeling so bad. I haven't had my surgery yet, but from what I've read on here it sounds like the first week is the worst, then the pain usually gets better. Sounds like being comatose might be an improvement over what you're going through -- maybe taking the pain meds will help. Hope it gets better.
Topic: RE: How long does it take to schedule surgery?
Just depends on your surgeon's schedule -- seems like its usually a month or less for most people I've read about on here (and was for me) -- maybe someone else who's had the same surgeon could give you an idea. After mine was scheduled I had to get pre-op labs done, see an exercise physiologist, spend a couple of hours with a dietician regarding diet, both pre-op and post-op. I'm having the lapRNY, but I'm not sure the pre-op stuff is that different. It all seems to vary quite a bit though, depending on your surgeon and his or her program. Good luck.

Thank you, Cherri -- my surgery is Thursday. Hope yours goes well.
Topic: How long does it take to schedule surgery?
Insurance approved lap band procedure for me in mid July. Drs office immediately sent me to the hospital to have pre-op tests done on July 19. They said tests should be back in a week and then I will come in and talk to Dr. and he will schedule my surgery. two questions: How long does that usually take? Days? weeks? months? Also, will there be anything else I still have to do in terms of paperwork or other commitments? I am ready for this to happen!
