Topic: Susann's sister
Hello everyone I am posting this because Susann is now on her way to Jacksonville, Florida and because of the recent news, we think it would be best for her to not be on the internet for a few days. You may have all seen or heard the news about a woman who was found dead in the lavatory on a Delta flight from LA to Atlanta. That woman was Susann's sister, Mikey. I probably spelled that wrong. We all met her at Susann and Jerry's reception back in April. An autopsy was being performed today but I do not know any results at this time. All of Susann's family was headed to Jacksonville for her nephew's wedding on Saturday. The wedding will go ahead as planned but then the surviving sisters are planning to have a funeral in Jacksonville early next week. They will then accompany their sister's body back to California for burial. I do not know any exact plans at this point, but will post again as soon as I do. Please keep Susann and her family in your prayers. Dollie

Topic: RE: My first post-surgery doctor visit...
Congratulations! Did it feel good to get the staples out? Did the Dr. or nutritionist talk to you about what to eat at this point? I'd love some details! I have my first post-op visit next Tuesday. Keep up the great work!

Topic: RE: 2 weeks out from surgery
Thanks, you two, for responding! I've been drinking Myoplex, which has a lot of protein per 4 oz., but it just gets hard...I'll see if I can get my hands on some unjury. I wonder why the difference between when people are told to go from liquids to soft foods? I seem to be handling the soft foods fine. Today I had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese--not blended! Does anyone know if there's a "hard and fast" rule on the liquid vs. soft phase? I just know that the nutrition prep program I went through said to transition to soft foods after week 2.

I would absolutely consider it cheating. Its also very disrespectful to the spouse or significant other.

Hi Susan ... I'm one week and a day since surgery and my doctor has me on liquids for another two weeks. SlimFast has a new line of drinks out called Carb Formula. They taste really good and have 20g of protein, 6g of carbs and this is within the guidelines I was given for protein drinks. Also, Unjury (go online) has unflavored protein powder. I was given a bunch of samples when I left the hospital. You stir it in soup and can't even taste it. I'm having no problem getting 50-60g of protein per day with these two items. Also, I put Special K drink powder in my water. That will give you 6g of Protein. Good luck!

Topic: My first post-surgery doctor visit...
My first doctor visit post surgery was today ... got my staples out and weighed. I've lost 20 pounds since my first visit to the doctor on 5/20 and 8 pounds since surgery a week and a day ago. I'm feeling pretty good - just tired from time to time. Next appointment is 30 days away. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself!

I am already online trying to find the HerbOx. I don't like jello do you think apple sauce would work or is it to thick? I kind of went through the emotional thing in 2005. I lost 50lbs and was able to buy clothes at regular stores, etc. I couldn't sit still. I was always looking for something to do and when I couldn't find something I wanted to eat or got mad because my life was so boring. Food was my friend and my entertainment. I started reading and walking and I finally settled down. Oh I almost forgot.......I am emailing from Mississippi but will have my surgery in Louisiana. Could you tell me what a typical menu is for you. What do you eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner....etc. I appreciate all your insight and can't thank you enough!!!!

I too have Cigna/ their requirements are for 6 mos dietary records, sleep studies, lab work and statements from PCP and Bariatric Surgeon for certification of need AND psychologist and nutritionist statements. Their criteria is BMI of 40 for at least 1 year OR 35 with certain comorbidities such as Diabetes/fatty liver/ hypertension, your doctor's office should have also received the same letter from Cigna. Remember that MD has laws that state the insurance company CANNOT request more information for consideration than what is in your policy. You can call Cigna (I did) and ask that they send you the list of your policy's criteria for WLS. Good Luck

Hi Dawn. As strange as it sounds, i was not scared at all. Not even as they were wheeling me into the OR. I am not sure where your surgery is, but the Foundation Hospital in Edmond was extraordinary. They made me feel so comfortable and made sure that I had everything I needed and also my husband. I think when you get to the point I was and where you are now, you have made a peace with your decision and therefore, anxiety is limited. Don't second guess yourself. Today is day 8 and I have lived on water, Fuze, jello, broth, popsicles, and diet cran-grape juice. The hospital had a broth that was so good even my husband drank it a couple of times. He found it at Crest Foods in Edmond. They have beef and chicken. It is called HerbOx. It is tons better than Swanson or any others I have had. Packets to mix with water. As far as being hungry, not at all. My family is cooking and eating in front of me and of course i say, "that smells so good," but I have no hunger feelings at all. I even spent yesterday watching the food network and writing down recipes to try later. d Like I posted earlier, have your support people there to keep your mind occupied. Hopefully you won't have the emotional days i did. keep busy. let me know how you are doing and good luck.
