I need advice please~ Surgery on 7/29/08 and starving.
I had my bypass surgery last Tuesday, everything went well, have followed the directions given to me. Only water, milk, and broth... but I am really hungry, my stomach is growling non-stop, I feel weak and fatigued. Originally I was told there would not be any hunger sensations at first, when I asked why I feel so hungry I was told that I just don't have much swelling (which is a good thing), but my gosh I feel like I am failing at this or something. I am at the point now where I am physically hurting from not eating. =( I am tempted to try a lil something but I don't want to injure myself. Advice please?
hi my bypass was on 6/10 ive lost apox 45 lbs and im still not hungry ever but its very important to have at least 24 oz of water a day i add crystal light to it and every day i have carnation instant breakfast and i add 1 scoop of protien powder so i only louse fat and not muscle i would have lost more but slow it down with 75-80 grams of protien a day everybody that sees me says i look better or look great and healthy so fill up on water and full fluids the food will come later if you eat now your gonna get sick and that sucks good luck frank
I had my surgery 7/7/08 I was hungry 4 days after, I stayed on the cream soup thing for 9 days
and I couldn't take it I was HUNGRY so I incorpated eggs and cheese, the dr. was not happy
but it helped and it was Protien. I just posted yesterday for help with hunger. I heard back
from alot of people which I really appreciated.. But I guess most of all it was nice to know
that I am not the only person Hungry. I am going to try to go to therapy to help with the
"Head Hunger" but I truly feel that I can distingush between real hunger and head hunger
but you never know! my pouch never seems to get filled, I sat down and ate until I was
really full and I ate alot. scared me! I want this to succeed and am scared to gain all
my weight back. Talking always helps and encouragment helps and makes me want to keep
on but right now Im so hungry, and so disapointed that I never got the Im not hungry feeling
like i was told would happen and I too feel like im failing. My dr said that I might be one of
those people that food goes thru fast. (what ever that means) Im so constipated it hurts. and
I take laxatives everyday!! When you get to your next stage of eating it might help you. Im now
on stage 4 so I get veggies and fruit but still no carbs! Im hoping it helps some. good luck
to you!! I hope you ( and I) get some real help soon!

I felt the EXACT same way after surgery because I had been told that people didn't feel hungry at all and they had to force themselves to eat! I thought jeez did I fail or maybe the doctor just told me I had the bypass to see if it was all in my head but he did not actually do so...haha not the case obviously! After I talked to the doctor and told him about it he told me that it is pretty normal and to just try and drink more often and switch up my foods such popsicles, jello, etc. I also believed that it was head hunger because I was in the hosptial for 5 days and had NO desire to eat at all but as soon as I got home and everyone else was eating I was hungry! Once, I told myself it was head hunger I did not feel like such a failure! I let myself be mad at times and upset that I could not eat the same thing everyone else was eating and tried to make light of it by going and smelling it and saying things like "I think chicken and rice should be considered a clear liquid for today" when I wanted what everyone else was eating. I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks and if was rough but I made it through and you can too!! :)
