Im in the process of having the lap band done. I have already had a visit to the Dr. The Neut. and the Phy. Im still not certain which is best for me. Im a very active person I love to hunt I climb to my tree stand which is very very hard to do at this point. Im now questing myself which surgery to do. I have anxiety really bad and im questing myself weither or not I will be able to handle knowing a have a foreign object in my body. All im waiting on is my approval letter so I need to make a decision which will be best and I really dont know how to determain that. Anyone please help
i just had my surgery on thursday and i had gb and now my diabetes is gone !!!! the only thing i can tell you is with the lap band from what i heard is it is constantly shifting and you have to go back every couple of weeks to get it adjusted!!! but i was looking for a more long term solution to my diabetes and hopefully this is the cure!!!anyway make the decision on your needs and health also gb is a lot faster weight loss!!! anyway good luck and see ya lighter!!!
I like you had a hard time deciding about surgeries. I looked into lap band, RN-Y and VSG. After much decision making I knew I didn't want the Bypass, and then I found out about the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy). While this procedure is not reversible it is wonderful. I do not have any foreign objects in my body and do not have to have fills every few weeks/months. THe VSG is totally a restrictive procedure and does not have the complications that a Bypass or Lap Band can have. Basically they remove 3/4 of the stomach and you have a small banana shaped stomach once they are done. If this is not an option for you I would probably do the bypass. I am kinda a one stop shopping gal and would not like to have to go in on a regular basis to have fills plus the chance that the band could rupture, slip or have to be removed due to scar tissue really made me think twice.
Good luck in whatever you decide I have lost 125lbs since 2/20/08.

I went with the Lap Band because it gives you the same result and its reversible and not permanent! Also, you don't get malnourished and that weird yellowish tint to your eyes like some people do when they have GB..But if you'd like something permanent and don't want to get saline shots injected into your stomach every 6 weeks then I'd say get the GB.
My doctor refused to sign the release form because 3 of her patients died on the table getting GB so I had to go find another doctor for a little bit. You have to weigh the pros and cons for each surgery because there are several..Some people think its worth it..Some don't...but it definitely changes lives!
