My surgery date is July 29th I wanted to know where to get the protein test tubes with the 42...
Read my post before yours "As time goes by". Protein bullets can be bought at GNC health food stores or online at this site you'll see them flash up in the adds.
What you are about to do is a major step and life changing event for you and your family. It takes alot of hard work mentally and physically. There will be happy moments, frustrating moments and tearfull moments and alot in between. Don't let anyone fool you this is not easy for alot of us. Always be honest with your Doctor even about cheats, what can they do to you after the fact! LOL. Keep the communication open with your family and spouse. They will also be scared for, frustrated with you and happy with you but they can't understand where your coming from or understand how your emotions will roller coaster unless you talk to them and let them know alot of it is side effects from weight loss but not perment. You may the first month think what the hell have I done but a few months out you will feel different. Don't buy alot of protein drinks like slim fast or what have you, things will taste completely different after sugery and you won't be able to drink much of it and you'll get sick of them. Believe me. Head hunger will fight you but don't give in cause it will hurt like hell or make you sick if you eat the wrong things to soon or too fast. Follow the rules, no matter how sick you are of certain foods time goes by fast. Your taste buds will come back to life much later which isn't a good thing LOL. Get a toddler spoon, ****tail fork and a small, plate. This is what you will use for a while till you learn to measure your food . Food is measure by size not by weight. When you get home and they say 2 oz of protein drink in several meals a day thats 2 medicine cups from the liquid tylenal bottle. Believe that will even be hard to get down. Load up up popsciles sugarfree, sugar free Icess, jello, crystal light to help with the fluids. Make sure your nutritionist gives you a good guide to follow post op. Don't take much with you to the hospital except some good slippers, a rob, extra blankie and some large panties. Alot of times for some reason our periods will start the next day. Some people have bowl movements in the hospital some don't either way when you do depending on your surgery and how swollen you are it may hurt to bend over and wipe. Modesty is a thing of the past. You won't feel like doing much espically with the meds. You won't feel like socializing or reading a book either. You will be sore on the ride home so dress very loosely or go home in your robe and ask for or take a small firm pillow to hold against you left side cause you'll feel every pot hole and RR crossing. I found sleep in the recliner the best for the first few weeks. You will nauturally have pain and pulling feelings on your left side alot!! This is where all the work and new plumbing was done and as it heals you'll feel all kind of things. Be carefull not to lift heavey things though. You have to get up right away and start walking and walking it will make you feel better but it will take weeks to get the anastia out of your system, this results in mood swings, gas and bloating and waking up from a dead sleep to wide awake. Don't get on the scale for at least a week after you get home....I'm telling all of you it is not your friend. People differ and some folks actually gain a few pounds that 1st week which is all fluid from surgery, not moving and your body just freaking out, it will go. Remember to stay positive and keep positive people around and start getting all the food junk out of the house even though the first few months you most likely won't even want it but they will start call ing your name in about 4 or 5 months so don't even consider bring them back!! Remember fluid is important get a good easy to cary mug and keep it full of water or something and small sips all day long. You can do this. Go to your home state Forum if you haven't already or this months board or both and ask for an Angel who will keep in contact with you these first few weeks and report on your surgery and keep all you OH friends up to date and on a prayer list. Its alway good to know folks are praying for your success. I hope some of this helps and Good luck!!
You can get the bullets at GNC, BUT... I've read that the protein in them is not the highest quality. It's collagen protein, and may not be as easily absorbed as whey or soy protein. I'd check with your nutritionist about how they view the protein bullets.
Advice? Mine is to work hard to drink your liquids! I hit a stall at 2.5 weeks out, and was so frustrated. I was getting 90-100 grams of protein, walking 1-2 miles daily, but nothing was happening. I talked to my NUT and realized I was only getting about 30-40oz of liquid a day... not even close to enough. She told me that if you're on the verge of dehydration, your body will hang on to water and thus stall your weight loss. I worked hard and have been getting 64-72oz a day in now, and have lost 7lbs in a week.
