So I had my surgery on the 16th and everything went well..However it seems that my struggles right now are not remembering my protein shakes 3 times a day. I have been managing about 2 a day. Not taking my vitamins. Haven't started them and I blame that on laziness and no way to crush them. And haven't started walking.. Not sure if it is normal to still have so much pain on the 5th day or know if there will be problems since I am not doing the above. I also think I might have pulled something last night trying to get into bed because I am super sore today. Not sure if it is normal to be this sore. Also have been really emotional today having cried over the stupidest things. The last time was because my blender doesn't seem to be blending my food and I am hungry. I skipped lunch cuz I napped and now can't make dinner so all I had was maybe 1-2 tablespoons of pureed peaches from 2 days ago. Also running out of ideas of what I can eat for my three meals. My doctor only supplied a 3 day meal plan and I am already getting sick of those foods since I have been repeating the days. Any suggestions or ideas.. Oh am down 6 lbs from the 15th though..

Your doctor or nutritionis should of gave you a 4 stage plan. Something on the line of the first two weeks out should be nothing but protein drinks like insure 2 oz at least 3 times a day. Soup broths are good to. Try to sip water no more than 1/2 hour before protein meal and 45 minutes after meal. You can try sipping Isoprue or protein water or something like crystal light for fluids. The biggest thing the first month is fluids. Because your diet won't consist of enough carbs you will go into ketosis which is why alot of us lost weight so fast not to mention eating less than more or less 600 calories a day. Don't stress your vitamins. Right now but shortly you need to get on them. ALot of us do 2 chewable flinston vitamins and liquid or disolvable b complex vitamins and chewable calcium or tum(at least 3 a day) for calcium. Snacking can be sugarfree jello or sugar free popsycles or sugar free ices from walmart. After two weeks you should add in soft foods like, refried beans...Taco bells with cheese is good, soft scramble(watch egg doesn't always agree with the new pouch) soft cheeses, cottage cheese, yogart (greek yogart is best and high in protein low in sugar), also pureed baby food meats only or tofu bu****ch for empty carbs. Once again its 2 to 3 oz per meal which will give you around 45 -60 grams of protein per day. It will be difficult cause your hunger will be reduced by now. Poor protein intake increases your risk of dumping poor wound healing and hair loss and poor weight loss. A high protein drink can help supplement if your appetitate is low but make sure it is a minum of 15 grams of protein and less than 5 grams of carbs. You can use soy protein powder and add it to puddings or coffee. GNC also sells soy protein bullets but cut them into 3 servings cause your new pouch cant absorb so much protein at a time so the rest goes right on out! Rember to take very small bites and chew your food well. Use a toddler fork and spoon and small plate...it helps. EAT 4 to 6 SMALL meals a daily the first several months to meet your protein and calorie needs This will ensure good nutrition intake without eating too much at one time. Stage 3-After two weeks of this you can add in soft fish, crab and soft meats like chicken beef and pork. meat which should be baked soft, very soft or tender made with some gravy if need be. Start with fish the first week and if no negative signs than add chicken the next week than the next week beef/pork if all goes well. Remember Chew it well or it will get stuck or if it is two dry it will stick and you'll swear your having a heart attack. You will be shooting for at least 21 grams of protein per meal about 2 months out but they really want you up around 90 grams a day. Protein is always first and the measurements is not by weight but size. Use a liquid measureing cup if need be. Doesn't look like much but it will fill you up Around 3 months out you can start adding in veggies and fruits bu****ch for high carb startchy things, they may make you dump and will also increase your appitite(DANGER WILL RODGER). Remember protein first than carbs You can also add in protein rich snacks as you transition away from small frequent meals to 3 meals daily like: 1-2TBS peanut butter or other nut butter 1-2 TBS low salt or unsalted nuts(any variety) Almonds have highest protein count a Meat/cheese roll up from deli meat 1-2 oz of low fat cheese 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese 1 boiled egg Snacking should on be after 3 months out!! And always choose protein rich foods SNACKING ON EMPTY CARBS will nock you out of ketosis and only stimulates your hunger and YES it will come back after your pouch starts healing Make sure you always seperate your liquids from your meal they can push food out of your pouch and make you hungrey. You need your protein give it time to digest before drinking after you eat! You will be amazing of the amount of food you will eat later on out but you have to follow the plan. Fluids right now are very important and watch for hidden carbs in your protein drinks!! Good Luck and go to the main board and look for post by EggFace or go to her blog she post the most amazing reciepes all legal for us!

Oh yea sorry about the pain,....this is very normal for weeks as the sight heals espically the left side. It feels like a sharp twitching or pulled muscel espically as it heals. THere are stitches inside also. Be carefull get up and down or turning. Emotions will run wild for weeks first off becuase of the weeks it takes for the anastia to wear off, cause me sleepless nights also and when your weight loss kicks in massive amounts of hormones will dump from stored fat cells into your system so if you are on antidepressents, bi-polar or what ever medical conditions that cause mood swings your meds may need adjusted during this time. This is all typical. My DOctor warned my husband to expect it but not to worry about it. Get alot of rest, walk when you can and as often cause it helps with the healing too and strive for at least 64 oz of fluid these first months! Good Luck.

Wow thanks so much for all that information! I must say it sounds totally different then what they have told me.. I am on a pureed diet already so have been eating yogurt, oatmeal, banana/orange mix, cottage cheese, mashed potatos with melted cheddar, tuna/mayo mix, chicken/mayo mix, carrots, peaches, green beans, jello, sf popsciles, and that is about it..I have my protein shake and I try to drink it 3 times a day but seems I only manage 1-2 times a day...I simply forget to drink it.. They also told me to take 4 flinestones a day as well as calcuim petites, b12, and iron..however the iron and calcuim need to be crushed and everytime I mix it in something it tastes horrible and I feel like I want to puke. Also they said I could have scrambled eggs so I tried that and felt like I was having a heart attack so made my hubby eat the rest. I guess I am mainly curious if anyone know of a site or link, or book something that gives you daily meal plans like B: blah blah L: Blah blah S: Blah blah D: blah blah They only gave me a three day menu sample so I am getting bored with that food already.

Watch your carbs! Carrots are high in natural sugar, but good so are peaches, mashed potatos and oatmeal unless your doing the low carb kind. Dukes mayo has the lowest carb. You can get liquid iron but you have to watch your teath. This early out your iron shouldn't be an issue unless you already anmic. Calcium like tums is becasue how the absorbtion issue is on our bones. You can get calcium chews at walmart. Liquid iron at the counter pharmacy. I just do the flinston 2 a day chewable with iron. I haven't had any problems with my blood work so far and I do miss days but early out since your not getting enough foods it helps supplement it. My plan came from Nutritionis Katrina Segrave who has a good book Life after Gastric bypass. She helps support several surgical teams out of Pitt Hospital in Greenville NC where RYN was develope in the 60's known than as the Greenville bypass. My Doctor practices under the original doctor who still heads this team and 32 scienctist. It is there goal to discover the link to stopping diabetis through intestinal bypass associated with gastric by pass. Never seen such a excited diligent strick bunch. I have my hand out copy here of what we are suppose to be doing and would mail you a copy if you'd like or you could just order Katrina's book her email is [email protected] In any event if you should follow your Doctors advice if his other patients have succeed at it.
