ok its one week today and i am depressed crying in my bed and want to eat somthing other then broth and applesauce ( baby food) and water i need some taste and fresh air. dang.. my aunt says it will be over soon you did not go this far to mess up you will be fine/. i know but dang its been a year from her. i got up and clean a little in my daughter room while she is on vacation out of state. my husband at work and all i do is rest in my bed and watch the style channel. and the afternoon courts. i do crossword puzzles and read and even listen to my IPOD .. help

i feel you girl, i had my surgery on friday. I'm still hurting and still having nausea but for some reason keep thinking about food. The good thing is, even though my mind tells me I want to eat, my stomach no longer lets me. I have decided it is going to be a process of unlearning to want to eat all the time. At least that's how it is for me! Congrats on keeping yourself occupied. Just remember to keep your eye on the prize!!

It's been a little over 1 week for me and I have had some occasional bouts of crying and some definitely tough periods of being hungry and wanting something other than broth etc... When I am in the middle of them, it feels like I am always going to feel that way. I'm bored with sitting around...going out to do something....anything...usually helps. Recovering from surgery is definitely not a super easy task is it?

Ladies!! Lets get out of the bed, chair or whatever and get out in the heat, or morning heat and start walking. One, it will help with getting anastia out of your system which contributes at this point to your depression, two your body will feel better if it is moving beleive it or not. Most though I believe we were all told somewhere along the way that this tool will only help you lose weight fast the first 6 months and slow up for the next 6. Your body starts adapting to the new plumbing, your hormones will straighten out later on, oh yea rapid weightloss dumps stored hormes in your fat cells into your system, hence great mood swings and depression. For some it can be an issue. Alot of it at first is from the surgery and anastia. BUT this tool only works long enough by itself the first year and if you don't not only start changing your eating habits not exercising your chances of regain get higher. At this point your doctor should be telling you to start walking at least 45 minutes a day, slow if you have to and build up but you have got to commit to someform of movement from this time out..Yep we all get off track and believe you will know cause it doesn't take much time to gain back a pound or two. You can't eat much now but you will months out SO strap on that IPOD and get walking, walking is good for depression too. Remember this surgery is a tool. It will be there but it won't work as good on farther out as it does now but it gives you the time to get rid of bad habits and start new good ones. As my Doctor told me at my 6 month check up, "your going to slow up in weightloss (it did)and the rest of it now will depend on your lifestyle!" Think ladies 6 months from now is just past christmas...see how time flies! Go to www.fitday.com and get in the habit of logging your food consumption plus how much exercise your doing and it will let you know how your doing.

Hi Mishelle, Sorry to hear about your depression.....you will feel better in just a few days. I promise! I was at about day 10 when I started sleeping better and the pain wasn't as intense. Also, try just walking in place or around your living room. I live in Arizona and it too hot to walk outside right now. I walked around my living room and it really helped! I am now at 15 days out and feeling really good. Some soreness around the port site. Every day gets better! And, I have lost 25 pounds!!!!! This includes pre-op weight loss also. Chin up girl!!!! Dee

I so feel for you! I was going through the exact same thing last week. I had a complete breakdown at one point, just agonizing over not being able to have something different besides clear liquids! I can tell you that it does get better. Getting out of the house is important. When I was off work last week, every night when my husband got home from work, we went for a little drive. Even if it was just to a local park for a short walk, getting out of the house made a huge difference for me. As for getting some food with taste, get creative! Add some cinnamon and sugar free caramel to your apple sauce. Throw some spices in your broth. Just because you had WLS, does not mean you have to eat boring food for the rest of your life!

thanks for all the imput trust me i love it, and i am walking around the house here in california we dont know what cool down is it get 74degrees at 8pm but im husband took me for a drive last night and i got some wonton soup and had that broth it was wonderful. i even got some decafe tea wow what a difference. today i took my shower and put on regular clothes and i said to myself in the mirror DAM im getting there. i have lost 15 lbs since my surgery but its just long days i rn out of things to do. i can not wait to go to work. i will go for another ride tonight i hope. thanks ladies ck with you tomorrow ok.

I'm having a lot of trouble too. I have the depression somewhat but mostly I am just so weak and tired I can hardly move. I agree some moveemnt and getting out would be good, but I feel close to passing out!

When I planned my surgery, they told me "6 to 8 weeks for recovery." I said to myself, "nah, two weeks'll do it!" And just took my two weeks vacation, so I wouldn't have to go on short-term disability. I now know why they say 6 to 8 weeks - it takes time for your body to heal and for you to build your strength back up. I didn't go through depression as much as being fed up with myself for being so flippin' weak, but I have great support at home and was made to get up and out every day to walk our Westie each morning (never got very far, but then I found every day I could go a little further), and each evening when my honey got home from work, she'd take the dog and me to a park for a walk. Again, each day, I could go a little further. Oddly, for me, food didn't interest me at first - I was almost afraid to eat, but applesauce (natural - no sugar) was my best friend - that and herbal teas. I am now two months out and feel fantastic. I've gotten my strength back - actually surpassed my strength level from what it used to be pre-surgery. I'm climbing stairs and taking hills like they were nothing, so hang in there. It will get better and you will be so glad you took this step. Good luck to you!
