Just had RNY & having trouble w/Post-Op Diet
Today is my first day home from the hospital after having RNY surgery on Monday (7/7). My doctor said to make sure liquids went down & not to worry about protein at the moment. Does this sound like normal doctor's advice? I'm trying to get just drinks down & having a hard time with that. There's so much gas in my tummy, that everytime I take a swallow I get tremendous gassy pains. Does anyone have any solutions or advise for me being a newbie at all of this?
Thanks!
Hi Bethany,
I had my surgery on the 1st. I also had a lot of gas.....
My doctor said not to worry about the protein for the first week. Just keep drinking water, broth, jello. I did this. I didn't feel like going out in "public" to walk, so i just stood in place and walked. It helps. The gas will pass. I promise! Mine took about a week and still have some gas right after I "eat".
Just get used to your new "stomach".
I promise you will feel better in about a week.

Hi, Dee:
Thanks for the advise. I'm feeling much better today, so I think the excess gas is absorbing or moving. I still have a pain every once in a while right under my left rib cage. It only last a few seconds. I just have to breathe through it. I've started drinking Isopure. If I can get it down, it will be my water & protein source. I've been walking up & down my hallway every hour or two. It seems to get things moving. I'm still trying to get used to my "new stomach". I'm so fearful to eat or drink too much & cause it to expand.
But thanks again for the advise & keep me informed on how you're doing post-op
Beth
