Can I have a drink?
I am 3 months post RNY, and am getting together with some friends next weekend that I haven't seen in a while. I rarely drink alcohol(especially now) but would love to have one or two over the weekend. I hear conflicting things about drinking; I know it hits you faster. I don't intend to have more than one or two, nor will I be driving. Can anyone tell about their experiences with having a drink? Thanks!

Hi Marcia...I am six months post-op and I have had a few drinks! Make sure that u drink slowly because you will get drunk instantly...he, he! Before, I could feel a little buzzed and then get drunk! Now...after the surgery...I skip the buzzed part, and get drunk! So be careful! You can drink, but drink slowly because it doe**** you really hard!
Hi Laura! I did in fact have a drink(s). I used Crystal Lite lemonade mix and added just a splash of good vodka. I made it very light, and had one both of the days I was away. I also had a couple of jello shooters made with sugar free jello, which I think hit me harder than the vodka drinks because someone else made them and they were strong!Either way, I had no problems- I slept well that night! I haven't had a drink since, and plan to save it for special ocassions. I can understand completely you wanting to have a drink on your cruise to relax a little. My only suggestion would be to stay away from the sugary stuff and instead go for wine, bloody marys, or sugar free drinks. If you fix the drink yourself you have a lot more control over how strong it is. Also, add lots of ice and sip it slowly. Have a great time on your cruise! Marcia
