Jan,
I'm not sure really.....still in denial that it's next week. Going to Chicago over the 4th for a long planned trip to see Wicked the musical so that's been top priority and I'm not even packed for it yet because my final surgeon appt is tomorrow and I'm a wreck figuring out what I MUST ask before the surgery!!
I'm thinking....PJs so that I'm comfortable walking, walking, walking...that means foot wear going with the nike slides to grip the floor in case my head is spinning from all the pain meds.....then what to do while I'm there??? Setting the unrealistic expectation that I might do something other than sleep, walk, sip so planning on taking a book and/or magazines. Definitely my cell phone which doubles as my mp3 player. Am wondering about the laptop after the first day so I can post here.....probably already taking too many pain meds if I think I'm going to be coherent enough for that!! My own pillow with it's own special case so as not to get lost for the ride home. My friendly CPAP machine and all of it's trappings. Chapstick, I bought a sampler pack at Walmart with different smells in case I can't stand one I'll have options. Heard that smells and tastes change dramatically post-op. Toiletries to have my own stuff just shampoo and hair products.....like I'll care about that!! That's my list so far. Oh and undies etc so as not to offend anyone with views they might not like.....and my housecoat that I won't use if I'm oozing etc will just wear the hospital stuff then so they can wa****!!
WOW...gone on a long time on this post. Hope that helps....I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. My good friend and co-worker has her surgery on Wed of this week. She's paving the way for me so I'll let you know what she recommends after she's home this weekend!!

Amy,
Eeeek we leave a week from today. Walking shoes, I hadn't thought of that, thanks. My slippers really don't cut it. I packed a couple of books and my mp3 player. Those and sleeping will probably fill my time. I'm taking my laptop, if nothing else but to record my journey. Check, pillows and CPAP. lol on smpler pack of chapstick. I use Vicks vaporub on my lips, weird I know, but it works. I had my hair cut and permed last week so I don't have to deal with my hair in the hospital, I know I won't care.
We're staying a few extra days near the hospital (we live 3 hours away) so here's my list:
water
protein powder
hair brush
toothbrush etc
slippers
walking shoes (thanks!)
jammies
comfy pants
large t-shirt
baby wipes
vicks for lips
maxi pads, blood thinners can cause menstrual bleeding
pillows
vitamins
sansa
laptop
cpap
Let me know how your friend does. It will be fun to compare notes.

Jan,
Tried to post last night and my internet connection went haywire!! Anyhow, love the idea of baby wipes. Now on my list...thanks!! I don't have to worry about the menstrual bleeding thanks to fibroids I don't have the parts for that anymore. Still get the PMS stuff sometimes cause I kept the ovaries, but otherwise it's been great!!
My friend is in surgery right now as I type this. I'm hoping to be able to post later this afternoon that she's in recovery and doing well. Can't believe it's today for her. We've both been at this process since the beginning of this year and have thought about it, talked about it for many years before.

My friend is out of surgery and doing well. MD said all was routine. Love that routine word....love that it happened for her. Make room on the Loser's bench cause she's sittin down today!!!
When she gets home and feels better, I'm going to help her get started on this forum so she'll have everyone to help her.
