Hello, from the JULY 2007 board! What you can expect!
Hey guys...I had surgery in July of 2007 and am quickly approaching my one year surgiversary just as you guys are approaching your actual surgeries...I can't believe the year has gone by so fast!!
So, what do you have to look forward to?? EVERYTHING!!
I have been lucky and have not had any complications...my surgery was super easy, recovery was super easy, abnd I have NEVER once been sick!!! I was in the hospital one night and in total I was home within 24 hours. I walked as soon as I could after surgery and kept on walking every hour. I would highly recommend this as it truly speeds your results time. Oh, I also recommend that before surgery you have something for gas at home. The gas was the worst part of surgery for me.
So, what have my results been? I know your dying to know!! My highest weight was 311...day of my last surgery consult...287...now...192!! I went from a size 30-32 in tops and size 26 in bottoms to size 14 bottoms and large or x-large tops. I bicycle, walk, lift weights, swim, etc. I have tons of energy and feel FANTASTIC!! I still would like to lose another 30 plus about 10 more of skin after plastics, to get to my goal of 150. I can't imagine myself there, but I am still losing, even though it's SLOW going now.
I just want to wish all of you well and tell you that this is truly the BEST decision you will ever make for yourself!!
Other advise...take your vitamins, stay away from carbs as long as you can, drink lots of water, exercise as soon as you can, and get in all the protein you can! Try not to cheat and test yourself on sweets until you just can't stand it any longer. Some of us don't dump and finding that out might be like opening pandora's box for you, so avoid knowing it as long as you can to maximize your success!!
I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys might have, but most of all I just wanted to wish you the very best!! You just have no idea how this is going to change your life.
I too want to thank you, I read the boards and at times I become terrified that it has been a bad decision. I have many co morbids, and it was at the advise of my cardio doctor to have weight loss surgery. I am having RNY in August, my surgeon is on vacation the entire month of July and I am waiting on him...he is the best!! Thanks again, I do have one question what proteins did you use. I will do what they say about meds so I am really interested in how to get in all of the protein necessary to make my recovery easier. Did you exercise before surgery, I am currently at 239 lbs, 5'3" and find it difficult - maybe it is an excuse?! I know I must and will do what it takes, I cannot fail. Thanks again it is so nice to hear good things and know there is hope. Sincerely, Nancygp
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am having surgery on July 9th and while I am so excited and can't believe it is happening, I am scared. Scared of the unknown. It is really encouraging to hear the good things, along with good advice. I am 5'4 and 235, my hips and bottom of my feet are killing me from carrying around all this extra weight. Thanks for being here for us.
