Topic: RE: Looking for Suggestions for Eating!
I'm surprised. My doc said it was perfectly OK to replace meals with a protein smoothie. I get it at Tropical Smoothie - it's called Lean Machine and I ask for it with double whey and splenda. It's 173 calories and 44 gram of protein and it replaces one or two meals. It also counts for liquid - at least it works for me. I know there is a version at Smoothie King, too. Jus****ch the calories - some have a lot of calories so you have to go for the small one.
For breakfast, low sugar oatmeal works for me.
I drink hot teas now that it's getting chilly in Ohio. I put splenda in it, too.
Hope this helps some! Hang in there! Cheryl

Thanks for your responses. I do feel better when I hear about what others are eating. I'm trying to get all healthy things in and track daily. The journal keeps me very honest. Before surgery I would say I don't eat bad food but until I started tracking what everything "costs" you in calories I had no clue.
I looked at my information from my surgery group and 800 is not a bad amount to eat. At 5 weeks and beyond is say to stay between ~780 to 1100 calories for men and women. Men get a little more.
I think I'll try and keep it between 780-800 for now. I was trying to stay at about 500-600 but that is getting harder to do.

I feel I have done Great losing weight, I am down 76 pounds since surgery but am starting to stall. I am sure this is normal, but frustrating. Went to my 3 month checkup last week and the doc told me I needed to start trying to eat my protein instead of drinking it. I thought protein shakes were a good thing? But I am getting in a rut where I drink my protein for breakfast, have a small bowl of cheese soup for lunch and drink protein shake for supper. Seems like when I try to eat something it hurts so I find drinking my meals is so much easier. Any idea's?? And I need idea's on how to drink more fluids a day too! I don't like tea, crystal light and most juices I am tired of water! I found a Orange Pineapple juice I have been living on. HELP!!

I am having a protein smoothie each day - that helps me with the protein - it's 44 gr total and replaces an entire meal (doc approved). It's 173 calories and made with strawberries, bananas, and splenda at Tropical Smoothie. I know they have versions at Smoothie King too, bu****ch the calories. This one is called Lean Machine with double whey.
I'm never hungry and trying to eat 2 "meals" other then the smoothie. I'm not counting calories religiously though maybe I should.
I am slowing down, too, but have lost 63 pounds so far. It seems right on track, but I am greedy and want to be the wonder weight loss patient. So, I've been a little bummed about the total number lately. But, I feel a lot better when I read everyone's posts.

I am having family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.. its amazing my nephews are like'' Aunt JoJo's not gonna cook cause she cant eat (they visited post op) " . I am cooking a tradiitonal fair.. I am asking peopel to bring dessert and they will take home whatever is not eaten. I am not much of a baker.. so I dont have that risk. Halloween candy was bad for me.. but I policed myself.. eating one little bite and tossing the rest.. It hit that craving for me.. and kept me on track.

Wow, I am so proud of you....I had to make cookies last week too, and I also used the "bucket of dough"...but without even thinking popped a small piece of the raw dough in my mouth.....needless to saw I had the upset tummy and the upset brain....I am like you...next time I am in charge of the napkins. I am not sure how I am going to handle christmas...but thanksgiving we are going to my husbands family so I don't have to prepare anything and the leftovers stay there. Christmas is at our house though and everyone is used to a huge spread with lots of snacks and candies and cookies....and if I couldn't hold it together over the bucket of dough how on earth am I going to make stuff I really like???? Ugggg, but you know what I am already trying to shift the focus away from food....instead of goodie plates to hand out I am trying to come up with a craft or something to do instead....I don't know, if anyone has any amazing ideas feel free to share!

It seems like you are right on track with where I am also....I have really slowed down here lately, not stalled, but am just loosing a lb or so a week....so I have uped my cals too. I am really having trouble getting 800 in during the course of a day most days, but am really pushing to do it. I have also done something else, I am still getting my protein, but I am trying to find a more balanced approach. It has taken me a while to realize, but part of the reason I am having trouble getting enough calories is I would rather not eat than to eat the things I was, I was in a rut and didn't even realize it. I have given myself the ok to have a bite of the rice my family ate for dinner if I still want it after I have eaten my chicken and green beans, and that gave me this huge sense of freedom. I ate one bite of rice, it was amazing and I was done and I didn't feel bad about it. I don't know if that is starting back into bad habits, but I don't think so as long as I continue to follow the rules.
Good luck, we will both get where we want to be....
