Topic: Thanksgiving plans, goals, etc.
Hi, fellow Julyers! Just wondering what you are thankful for and if you have any goals set for Thanksgiving or plans for how to get past Turkey Day? I am sooooo thankful to have had this surgery! I feel soooo much better about myself and am already doing things I haven't in years: able to get my wedding ring off my finger (size 6 on an 8 1/2 finger!), cross my legs, hold my grandchildren closer on my lap, walk up the stairs without huffing and puffing, look in a mirror and not see a double, triple chin! The list could go on..........how about you? Jean

Topic: RE: What are you'all eating?
500 to 600 calories per day is just way too low, in my opinion (and in the opinion of my NUT...she says that we get up to 1200 per day, and more if we're exercising regularly). Her breakdown of those calories says it should be:
minimum 60 grams of protein, striving for 70 to 80
3 to 4, half-cup servings of veggies per day
2 to 3 servings of fruits per day
1-2 servings of dairy per day
If we're getting all of that in, in addition to our minimum of 64 oz. of water, then we can add whole grains in as well as they help to fill us up better and are better choices than refined or white carbs. I was eating too little fat before, and it was contributing to the bowel issues (constipation) I was having. She said the minimum fat per day that I should strive for is 25 grams, and not to exceed 40. So, that's pretty much what I do. Some days, I'm still a little under 25 grams, but that's ok.
Topic: RE: Looking for Suggestions for Eating!
Since I was okayed for regular food at 5 weeks out, I progressed to regular meals and very limited (rare) protein drinks now. I have one once in a great while if I'm just hankering for something chocolate, or if my tummy is being particularly snarky that day (seldom) and it's too late in the day to be able to meet my protein requirements through food. Most of my protein comes from chicken, beef, pork or fish. A little reduced fat cheese, some yogurt. I basically eat a very healthy, normal diet that includes enough meat/protein to get me minimum of 60 grams, and typically between 70 and 80. In addition, I have 3 to 4 half cup servings of veggies per day, 1-2 (I'm supposed to be eating 2-3) servings of fruit, and 1 to 2 servings of dairy. Today's meals for example are:
Breakfast: Trader Joe's Apple Cranberry Fiber Cake with 1 tablespoon of Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter
Morning snack: 1 wedge Laughing Cow Light cheese and 1 medium apple
Lunch: 1 cup slow cooker sausage and lentil stew (made it yesterday, has lentils, lite skinless kielbasa, spinach, onions, celery, garlic, other spices and it is SOOO yummy and filling)
Afternoon snack: Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt with 1/2 cup of Fiber One Cereal
Dinner: 3 oz. broiled flank steak and 1 cup steamed broccoli
Might have an evening snack. We'll see.

I am typically between 850 and 950 calories per day. I have yet to break 1000 (that's my goal, to keep it under 1000, over 800, each day. 60 to 70 grams of protein, 25 to 40 grams of fat, and 35 to 40+ grams of fiber.
