What is everyone eating?

I have lost a total of 41 pounds. GREAT! but I feel like I am losing really slow. What is everyone eating? My surgeon says "you can eat whatever you want". I eat no breads, basically no carbs with the exception of occasionally potatoes. I fix supper for the family and usually eat a little of the meat and veggies. I snack in the middle on shelled peanuts or Southbeach bars. I am just eating normal foods is that the problem? I do walk 30 to 45 minutes every night as well.

Hi, Kelly! I think you are doing very well! Try to remember that eveyone looses at different rates. It's not fair to you to compare to others. Make sure you eat your protein FIRST and get in all your liquids! That really seems to make a BIG difference for me. You may also notice that your wt loss slows/stalls for a few wks and then you have a bigger loss later on. That seems to be pretty normal from my experience and what I've read on this MB. Hang in there! You are doing GREAT! Jean

I seem to do best on soup or cottage cheese. Real food is just not comfortable for me. Bread (whole grain, 1/4 slice) darn near killed me! I won't try that again. I figure soup is protein and good veggies, so I'll hang with that and cottage cheese with some fruit. Linda

Taco Bell's Pintos and Cheese is a meal for me. It has alot of protein ( I have them add extra cheese). One little container is about half a cup. I am alsolosing slower than I would like, but as long as it keeps going down, I am happy! (surgery 7/18-46lbs) I am never hungry, and things that I loved before (like meat) taste terrible now. I would just try different things that are high in protein. My Dr wants me to eat 'normal' foods rather than relying on protein drinks. I do have an occasional protein bar when I need extra protein. Good Luck!

Hi Kelly, Congrats on your 41 pounds!!!! What a great gift to yourself! I too went thru a time where I felt like I was losing slower than the "rest"...telling you not to compare rolls off my finger tips all the while knowing it is SO hard not to! I found that increasing my protein seemed to help, or it was just coincidence and timing with my body catching up to the changes of the surgery, also on 7/25. Either way I bought some unflavored Unjury protein powder and I mix some in with different foods like cottage cheese or a cup of skim milk, be careful with hot liquids though...they can only be warm or the protein powder clumps up. It is great in a cup of sugarfree swiss miss cocoa! Then I got some cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup mixes and oatmeal mixes from Focus 28. They are a bit expensive but pack in 15 gms of protein each serving and really fill me up! Since I am eating so little these days I can justify getting it. Because I have little interest in eating and no cravings, fixing a quick cup of protein packed soup and having that as a late afternoon snack added quite a punch to my protein count. I am also walking 6 out of 7 days a week for 45 minutes as a very brisk pace. Hope this helps, Know we are cheering you on! Hugs, Lisa

Kelly- I am going to suggest that you calculate what your intake is for everything you consume-- it's easy to do with free online programs like DailyPlate.com or Fitday.com. I've lost slower than most post-op, but lost 68 pounds pre-op, so that's to be expected. Shelled peanuts are deceptively high in fat. While a handful a day has great health benefits, eating more than a few provide you with VERY high amounts of oil (fat) and calories. By logging your intake, you'll start to better understand what you're putting in your body! I eat about 750 calories every day-- 15g fat, 55g carbs, over 80g protein. I eat one 8 ounce Unjury Protein shake a day (made with skim milk and DaVinci sugar free flavored syrups.) The rest of my meals consist of very lean meats (mostly chicken and turkey- about 2 ounes per meal), canned vegetables, reduced fat cheeses, lowfat sugar free yogurt and pudding, turkey jerky (no fat and LOTS of protein, if you can tolerate the texture), meat crust pizza, soy chips, SF fudgecicles, Kay's Protein Cereal. I really can't complain-- my days have been quite tasty. The only things I am not eating as a matter of principle are chips, fast food, breads (except tortillas and very few whole grain crackers), cookies, candy and cake. I try to make sure that everything I put in me (besides vegetables) contains protein and provides nutrition. Here's a sample day: Breakfast: 8oz skim milk with scoop of Unjury protein, raspberry Davinci Syrup, and 5 strawberries, blended Lunch: 6 slices Healthy Choice Ham, with 1 ounce smoked Gouda (an indulgence!) Snack: .5 oz Kay's Protein Cereal in 4 ounces Light and Fit Yogurt Dinner: 8 inch tortilla, 1/4 c. RedFat cheddar, 2 ounces chicken w/taco seasoning, spoonful of salsa and no-fat sour cream Clocks in under 750 cals, and over 83g protein. Not bad, eh? Now, if I could only get in my water!
