I was just curious with the holidays coming up and more get togethers/parties. How did you tolerate it? I am not a drinker anyway, but was thinking of maybe having a little something. I guess I'm feeling a little more social since the weight loss. I know alot of doctors say to wait a while before having alcohol and that weight loss patients absorb more of it, and faster. What's your thoughts/plans on alcohol ???

Hi, Kim! I'm an August WLS recipient and thought I'd check out July's boards to see what I might expect in the coming months after surgery. I thought I would tell you what my surgeon and team of nurses, nutritionist, etc said about alcohol. They recommend not consuming alcohol for at least a year post-op. I was told it can hinder progress as well as cause other problems along the way. I'm too chicken to try it because of some of the horror stories I've heard about it LOL. I just wanted to let you know what I had heard about it. Good luck in your journey and God bless!! Brenda

So far I have had a 1/2 a glass champange and on another occasion beer...I dont feel it affected me any quicker than it normally would have and just a note...I am not a drinker.....ya know just a social drinker....anyway I found anything with bubbles(Beer, Champange) was a very weird feeling,,,,you took a sip and actually had to wait for it to funnel down....We were at a friends 30th birhtday party and did a shot or jagermeister and red bull(yuck)....But it went down alot easier than bubbles.....Good luck

another thing......I dont think anything in moderation will harm you and my surgeon says it was fine to drink....They just dont want you to do it daily....1 glass of wine during xmas dinner will not ruin anything....being a nurse ...I would never do anything to screw up my surgery.....I would be expected to know better...ha hahaha

I agree with Jessica. I have had an occasional drink since my surgery.I foung I had no problems with it.If anything I found i do as much for as before the surgery.ALOT of people will disagree with me on this and that's fine.My life strategy now is anyhting in moderation that is okay with my surgeon.Use your own personal judgement. If you are going to stress about the extra calories, it's not worht it.If you can have a drink or2 and relax and enjoy it .go for it! Cheers Donna

I had a glass of white zinfadel last week. First time with alcohol since surgery and it went down fine! I am not a drinker, just once every few months when I get together with the girls. I am way too afraid to try anything else. Sugar content is REALLY high in mixed drinks. It did hit me faster than usual, at least I think so. You have to remember our calorie intake is smaller now so there isn't much food to absorb anything, so go slowly!!!! Anyone else know of a low sugar drink with no fizz?? Enjoy the new you! One drink once in awhile isn't gonna hurt you!!That's my opinion anyways!
