can't stand meat

I have been struggling with food in general since my surgery (July 11th) but have really developed an adversion to meat. I hate the smell of it, the sight of it and the taste. I can't even say the word eggs...I make everyone spell it around me...crazy I know but they make me so nauseated. I can do beans and the other day I had a little brocolli soup that was good. I seem to want only veggies. I try very hard to force myself to eat meats for protein but I can't seem to do it. I have been getting most of my protein in by drinking ISOPURE waters. I think it is strange how my desire for food has changed. I want nothing I used to want. Anyone else with this problem? My doc says it is normal in about 2-4% of patients and that I should regain my tolerence of meats. Thanks, Laurie

Hi Laurie, I am totally with you. There are very few foods that are appetizing to me. I don't know if you have ever been pregnant-but thats how I feel. It is really depressing.-and sometimes when I feel like eating something, I eat it and it doesn't taste good at all. I feel like my taste buts are totally different. I had my surgery on 7/23 and some one told me it takes at least 2 mos. to feel some what normal. I keep waiting. I also get most of my protein from isopure but find that i can't get enough liquid or protein in. Are you sorry you asked? Claudia

I have had a very hard time adjusting to meat again! and I really miss my steak, they say you can eat chicken 2 weeks after surgery but I have found no matter how I cook it, it hurts to go down. I chew it very good too. I have given up totally on chicken (which was my favorite meat) today I tried roast beef from arby's as I thought it would be good and I loved roast beef and it tasted funny. Nothing tastes good to me anymore I think something sounds good and make it and I take one bite and yuck! I had surgery July 24th so guess I have time too. I have also been told that our tastes buds will change as well. Cath

Thanks for the reply, it is nice just knowing I am not alone in this...sorry that you are struggling as well though. I have just sort of given up on meat for now. I try to get my protein from the ISOPURE and other liquid sources. I eat refried beans and chili and a couple of veggie soups. Soft stuff still works best for me. Keep me posted on any improvement....we can cheer each other on! Laurie
