Anyone that doesn't get sick afte RNY?
I think I'm one of the those that hasn't gotten sick at all. I do get a little lump in my throat if I drink too fast. But mostly I eat any and everything only in a small portion. Usually I eat my 2 year olds left overs. I have eaten things to "test the waters" that should have made me so sick (too much sugar) and I didn't. Not that I'm doing that every week, actually it was only once and I know the next time it could make me sick. So far I have no regrets at all about the surgery. I'm just being super cautions.... I don't want to be back in the office in a year or 2 have a revision - since I could have prevented it. I know there are many reasons for revisions, I don't mean to offend anyone that has a revision.
Since I'm not eating exactly sugar free/fat free, I could actually be down more pounds than I am, so this definately is not a "bragging" thread.
Just was curiuos if anyone else hasn't been sick.
Hi, Kim! I haven't tried much outside of what is recommended for where I am at in this journey. BUT, I do know WHEN I've eaten too much. I get the feeling that there is a BIG Rock in my stoma, weighing me down. Time and burping (yuck) are the only things that seem to help. Except of course, not eating too much to begin with!!! I got the foamies once and vomited a little, otherwise, been feeling pretty well. Take care, Jean
I don't know if I dum*****t-- haven't pushed that-- but as far as food goes, everything goes down and stays down well. Like you, I do get the chest pain when I am going too fast to get things through my stoma (chicken is THE WORST), but if I wait a second, it releases quickly. No vomiting, no foamies, no intolerances.
I had not been sick at all either until this past weekend. I had experienced nausea and the tons of saliva while fighting the urge to be sick (the progression of that lump in the throat feeling), but I hadn't gotten sic****il this past Sunday. I ate some dry cereal that puffed up very big in my tummy and so, it filled me beyond full. I too stick to my measured portion sizes and when I'm done, I'm done. I haven't ventured out into other foods that might be higher in sugar or fat though either...I just haven't felt the need to push the envelope that way. I do know that not getting sick for the first 7 weeks post-op, I am lucky.
I don't get sick either. If I drink room temp water my mouth gets watery like I want to throw it up needless to say I don't do warm water I also been trying foods to see if i'll get sick too and so far I can tolerate sugar i.e one small square of Cadbury's hocolate fruit and nut bar and I had a small(2 tbsps.) dish of Turkey Hill's Strawberries and Creme ice cream.... Now I had some sf soft serve a couple weeks ago and I felt a little nauseous(weird)didn't fini**** either! So far there's a whole lot of foods I can tolerate but there's still a lot I need to try...... Actually those are the only two things that I've tried as far as a sugary dessert definitely not trying to make that a habit though! Just want to be able to make the right choices and enjoy what I eat without gaining an ounce.
Carla
I am too nervous to try those things. One night out with friends from the MN board here, I had some Grapefruit juice and I ended up dumping. Not fun to do that in public, but what better group of people to be with when I did - they all knew what I was doing and were all gathered in the bathroom at this bar to support me...wierd. Of course, I realized that I still didn't have my mind around how big my new pouch was as when I asked if they had something for me to throw up in, they offered me a glass that had icewater in it - they would dump the water out - and I said that it wouldn't be big enough (silly me - 5 LITTLE sips of juice and I think I'm going to fill a garbage bag or something!)
There have been times that I have gotten to feel nauseous, but not dump or throw up, so for that I am glad - but with those 3 times I did get like that (including the time mentioned above) has given me enough incentive to not attempt anything like that again.
I know it sounds silly - but I am glad that I am one of the people that does get sick - just adds more incentive to NOT get back into the old habits that I had before!
