Had my 1 month post-op visit w/surgeon on Friday and got the OK to finally eat something solid!!! After 6 wks of LD (pre- and post-op)!!! Wt loss has been great but I was really getting sick of LD!!! Although I knew I wouldn't be able to eat much, I really thought it would be more than 1oz!!! He said 1-2oz but 2oz put a giant rock in my pouch!!!! Think I may have eaten to fast...he said make the meal last 20-30 minutes. MEAL, WHAT MEAL? It was 2oz for heaven's sake!!!! Oh, well...it's the price we pay. Gonna try yogurt or cottage cheese tonight. Hope to hear from you! Take care, Jean

I take about 20 min max to eat 2-3 oz. I had figured I was eating too fast before, so I chew longer and chew more and more before swallowing a little at a time. Since you're free to have solid foods, try soft things, and use your mouth to "puree" the foods more. I was released to pureed foods 5 days out, and I had 1 oz rotisserie chicken, and it went down well! Also refried beans with a little melted cheese is yummo! Remember, protein first! Good luck! I'm doing really well. I had my three-week check-up today. I've been on soft foods for about a week. I do well on yogurt, refried beans with cheese, soup, and fish like salmon or tuna. The doc says I can start trying just about anything I like, as long as it's healthy, and I eat slowly and chew. I use a pyrex custard cup as my serving dish (to the line is 1/2 cup), and I eat with a small espresso spoon. It reminds me to eat tiny bites. It does take me about a half hour to eat 1/2 a cup of food. Linda

I thought I was doing really well until last night. I ate a piece of pork roast and it did not sit well. I ended up throwing it up. It was not pleasant but it was bearable. I guess I had to do this sooner or later. I felt fine after I got it out of my stomach. I think I eat too fast and need to put my spoon down in between bites. All and all life after surgery is going much better than I though it would. Heidi

I'm still having bad incisional pain in my left side port, made a lot worse by the impactde stools. Yeesh, some pain! Food stays down fine. I'm still on pureed/soft food-- and haven't post a pound in 2 weeks. Lucky me, eh?

I go about once every week. I'm not kidding. I was never an everyday person but this makes me a little nervous. I tried to take some milk of magnisea and it came right back up instantly. I guess I have to go back to what they gave me in the hospital though I don't know if I can get it down. yuck! Heidi

Regarding the stools... I was having a "hard" time until my surgeon's office told me to take colace twice a day. I have been getting it in once or twice a day, and it has completely eliminated the problem. Stools are usually once a day now, as compared to once every three days. They are also soft and not painful. Sorry if this is TMI, but it helped so much, I wanted you to know.

I also take colace twice a day. It was on my hospital release instructions. Linda
