Surgery Date was July 25th! Need Help
I have not lost any weight since my surgery and I am getting hungry for some real food. I have been walking, drinking and eating everything I am supposed to. I saw Dr Bruce this morning and he was not concerned that I hadn't lost weight yet. But it sure bothers me!! I am so close to cheating...
Is it normal to be HUNGRY at 12 days post op? I never seem to feel full on this full liquid diet. Will a pureed diet satisfy me more?
Thanks,
Karen
Karen, yes, I've seen it happen. I've seen a member even be 2+lbs at 2weeks. Our bodies are strange and your's being in shock from surgery is probably holding on for dear life as much liquid as it can. It will come off, I PROMISE!!
You are correct, the liquid diet goes in your pouch and right back out. Plus it was just plain boring, I didn't ever want to have another crystal light again! But once you are on the pureed diet it will be better. The pureed food will stay in your pouch longer, so you'll stay fuller longer than with just liquids!
Hang in there! Keep up the good work on your exercising and drinking!! (I know I need to get out walking more than I do).

Hi Karen,
Try your best to stay with it. I feel the same . My surgery was the 23rd and I tried some tuna salad today and I feel terrible. Pain in my stomache and unbearable gas. I thought I can start mushy today but I guess I have to be more careful.
But yes-I am definitely hungry. When are you allowed to have pureed.
Claudia
Hi All,
I can't tell you how much it has helped for you all to respond to my plight. I did break down and had about 1/2 cup instant potatoes with lowfat gravy last night. And yes, it did make me a little queasy. I had a good night's rest and this morning I had a big BM.
I am ready to tackle another day of this diet. I have NOT weighed myself yet today and plan NOT to. Tomorrow is my first appt with my primary physician. I am sure he will weigh me. I also start my pureed diet tomorrow. Just knowing I will feel more satisfied on pureed helps so much!
Hugs,
Karen
I'm sure you will start losing soon.. Your body is just going into hibernation because it thinks its starving so it is trying to conserve what you have. In time, it will realize it's fighting a losing battle (pun intended) and it will stop being so stubborn and you will start to lose. Don't throw in the towel yet.. you've come this far, it WILL get better. ;)
I also had surgery on the 25th. My advice is make sure you get lots of protein. I have mostly all protein plus 3 Adkins Advantage protein shakes and I have had a small amount of hunger, but not bad. I started puree yesterday and it does help some. Just make sure you chew, chew, and chew. I think I was lucky, because Dr. Clark had me on full liquids right in the hospital. I had 1 oz. of scrambled eggs and 1 oz. of cottage cheese within 4 hours of surgery. I think having that type of food instead of all broth made a big difference.
Good luck and hang in there. You will start to lose. Your body is probably still in recovery mode. Plus we have to remember we aren't getting many calories right now and our body is probably storing what fat we have because it's not sure if we are trying to starve ourselves or what. The doctors and nutritionist will tell you that they aren't not worried about weight loss right now, healing is the important part.
Here's to us ALL!
Well, I bought 2 boxes of this "zero carb ISOPURE" to drink, and to be honest, I really don't care for it's taste. I bought the variety package and I am going to try the apple melon today. It is something about it that makes my tummy go ecch when I drink it. It is a clear liquid and my dietician suggested buying it. I have other protein shakes I can make too. I am healing just fine. Thank you so very much for posting a reply!
Hugs,
Karen
Ewww....Isopure is too sweet! I mean, it's good for every other day or so. But not for your main source of protein. Try the Low Carb Slim Fast. Everybody seems to forget about that one. It's 20g per can. Also, I like the "Lean Body" stuff you can get at the health food store. 40g protein, 17 oz. fluid, 260 cal. and no sugar. A box of 12 is about $36, but it's worth it. Even if you don't use it everyday.
