I got word from the bariatric surgeon that Medicare had new requirements. So I called Medicare, I have all the comorbidities and high BMI, but now they want a 3 month diet and exercise program. I told the Medicare lady I've spent thousands on the various and sundry programs and I'm physically disabled with a metal plate in my neck and cannot exercise. She said all the bariatric or family doctor had to do was call this number and they could get me pre-approved. So I called the bariatric surgeon's office back and extremely rude woman there told me that I had to follow the rules. So now I don't know if maybe I should go out of my city for a doctor or what . Any ideas????

I was recently at a support group meeting where this was an issue. the nurse that works with my surgeon said that if you see your primary and have him start the 3 month deit program with the insurance company by the time you have finish all the is required of you for approval for surgery such as testing and specialists the 3 months will have already passed. but if the woman at the surgeon's office was rude I might consider finding a new dr. you will have tto deal with her for appointment and they are frequent in the first year I wouldn't want to feel uncomfortable. good luck amy

stuff like that ****** me off. politley call the surgeon's office back, and BE NICE.....request to speak to the office manager or someone other than the woman you spoke to, then complain about her rude behavior. The surgeon's office should be on your side and be willing to help you to get surgery....someone there should know about this rude woman. Hang in there, and don't give up.

Hi, Andrea! I'm sorry you were treated badly! It sounds like Medicare will be flexible about the 3 month diet and exercise requirement. The people at your surgeon's office SHOULD be trying to help you!!! I REALLY agree with Monica...call the surgeon's office, ask for the manager and tell them how this woman treated you! Even if you decide to go else where, you may help someone else from receiving the same bad treatment!!!! Don't give up!!! Take care and keep us posted!!! Jean
