Hi everyone,,this is my first post. I'm scheduled for open surgery on July 18th, I would love to hear from anyone that has had this procedure. I'm a little concerned about healing times and "out of work" time. Not to be vain, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about scaring...I've never had any type of surgery,,so this is all new to me. Thanks for all your help in advance. This is a great site and I enjoy reading about everyones trials and tribulations. Thanks again.

Hi Lisa...welcome!!! This board is for folks who have surgery dates coming up, we're all in the same boat as you. I've received lots and lots of advice and guidance from sucessful patients on the California board (where I'm located) you may also want to check out the forum dedicated to your specific procedure...RNY, lap band, etc.... Also, is your procedure laproscopic? or open? I don't hear of too many people having an open procedure, it takes longer to heal than laproscopic incisions. Your time off of work can be discussed with your surgeon. It really depends on how active you are at work. Post-ops are not supposed to lift anything heavier than a pound for at least a few weeks. You also should not be driving a car for about the first 10 days. Most people tend to return to work after 1 week with laproscopic. Open incisions take longer. My job doesn't require any lifting, (I work in a cubicle) so I was planning on being off for about ten days. Hope this helps, good luck!!

I haven't heard of alot of open RNY currently. But, my sister had it done 5 yrs ago and is doing great. She had a longer healing time and a long scar. Good Luck to you and you will be in my prayers. I'm having RNY laproscopic on July 9th, looking forward to the loser's side. God Bless, Sandra

My best friend, whom I met on the Obesity Help website, had her Open RNY in June of 2006 and she is doing great. If you want to talk to her about it you can get on my profile and find her profile. Her profile name is Brookeye. She will answer any questions you would like to know. Good luck with your surgery!! My Lap RNY will be the day after yours!
