liquaid diet or not
hi,
My surgery date is July 2nd and I m spinning out of controll and eating like everything. i am going to all my favorite resturants and having my favorites just one more time. I'm eating like it;s my last supper or I'm going under the electric chair. I want to loose some weight before surgery but I am afraid to go on a liquaid diet because I think that it will mess with my blood work for pre op testing. Do you think it will make a difference after being on liquaids for only 2 weeks? I quit Diet coke which was very hard for me. I just did it cold turkey. it has been 5 days now. I weigh 240 lbs.

I am doing the exact same thing...haha
I weigh in now at 255 I lost 5 pounds in one week just by going on a 15 minute walk everyday. Remember I said I am eating whatever i want.. amazing I still lost.
My Doc made me sign a contract that I would lose 14 pounds befor surgery , because he wants my "liver" to shrink. I think you really have to go on liquids a week before because of the surgery.. I bet it would cause complications if there is food in the stomach when it is operated on.
Blessings,
Valarie
Oh girls I so understand, I want to go to Dairy Queen so bad and order 1 of everything one last time. I just keep telling myself, how will I feel after that. And I try to think of my last Brownie Earthquake, and remember that one instead. I think of food all day and talk my self out of food all day. I just keep saying no your not hungry go have some water. I am down to 1 diet coke a day, and am on a 1200 cal diet, that I thought would be no problem, HA. I go on the liquid diet 2 wks prior to surgery (7/3/07).
Good luck ladies,
Abbey
I was feeling like that, but then after I'd eat something, I'd think, "well, that was no big wow!" So, now I'm taking things easy. My ex-boyfriend, who had RNY in January, said not to eat much of anything the few days before surgery. He had an AWFUL, and I mean AWFUL time moving his bowels after surgery. Very painful. So, keep that in mind if you're planning a "last supper."

I agree Linda, when I do eat something I think I just have to have I realize it wasn't as great as I thought. Also, I am my own worst police, I eat it and then feel guilty.
I can't wait till I get to have surgery. Then I feel like I maybe won't "want" so bad. Hoping anyway.
Good luck to everyone who is on there way.............................

I'm trying to lose before surgery too in hopes of shrinking my liver. I know the last time I went to my PC doc, my liver enzymes were up, so it's reasonable to think my liver's enlarged. I'd prefer laproscopic surgery to open, and my best chance at that is to drop some weight. I'm down a bit (about 10 pounds) from my consultation weight, if my scale is to be believed, but i've been as much as 18 pounds down. i, too, am struggling with the "last supper" thing... i'm also trying to get some regular exercise, though... and am watching what i eat really carefully more days than not...
Hi,raphie
my liver enzymes are elavated to. so I had abdomilnal ultrasound and liver size was normal. My rny surgeon said that this is normal with people who are obese. because I was afraid that after i hd my preop blood work come back that it would show that my liver enzyemes were high , Would that be a problem with having the suergery and thats when he told me know that that is normal and even if my liver was a little big it would be ok because we are doing it open and not laprocospic. So that made me feel a little better. I decided to do a liquaid diet a week before surgery. Water diet snapple protein drinks and jello and chicken broth. I can do it!!!!

I TOTALLY understand ya! I've been struggling with the same thing....kind of like a farewell tour of all my fav foods. I KNOW that it's bad but....it's so hard not to!
The hardest thing for me will be, we've planned a vacation at the end of this month in New Orleans...and I want to enjoy it and such but I also don't want to gain a whole buncha weight before the surgery....ugh!
In the seminar my surgeon held last week, he suggested doing a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery to a) shrink the liver b) lose weight and c) so it won't be quite as big of a shock after surgery....I'm going to do my best to adhere to this....we'll see
