The chew / swish and spit saved my sanity in my first four months after surgery!

Amazing how every DR is different! Mine firmly believe you should never drink carbonated drinks ever again. Also no alcohol for the first year at least. I've always felt like an occasional drink is fine, but now I won't waste the empty calories. I honestly have wanted a margarita for months but haven't had one because of the year rule. Orange juice is something I craved right after surgery, but only was brave enough to put it in my mouth swi**** around and then spit it out! I've now found Crystal light Sunrise Orange, which I drink instead. Jan

1. What types of food did you eat this week? Chili, bananas, cheese, crackers, chicken noodle soup, 2 bites of pizza, and of course tea mistos. 2. What types of exercise did you do this week? walking 3. How much weight did you lose? 4 pounds Total loss? 134 gone forever! 4. What was your biggest challenge? I've been sick the last two days, and it's been rough eating at all. 5. What are the results of your supplements/vitamin intake from your 6 month post-op appointment? Everything was great, except since I can't tolerate starches I'm missing the good stuff you get from them, so had to add a B Complex. *Fun bonus question: If you could go on one reality TV show, which would it be? [i.e. Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Top Chef, Miami Ink, Real World, Trading Spaces, etc.] It would have to be Amazing Race, not sure I could do all the challenges they have to do, but at this point I'd love to try. We travel all the time, so it would be a blast I think!

Thanks for the info!! That's great to know about the drinks, my doc also told me about the no soda part and I haven't had one since 1 month before surgery, but i do drink orange juice (that and water is all I drink) and didn't realize what it was doing to me, but I have noticed when I started drinking it an increase in my appitite, but I associated that with the 5-6 month hunger returniing stage. No more oj for me!! Thanks for sharing!! Lynette

[i.e. Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Top Chef, Miami Ink, Real World, Trading Spaces, etc.] HARD HARD question. Right now in my life I am going to say ... Top Chef! I'm not a chef at heart but am trying to fan that fire...albeit tiny fire

The nurse said carbonated drinks this far out are fine. I wasn't allowed to have them for the first six months.

Did your doctor mention anything to you about not drinking soda??? Mine told me it was a huge No-No. The carbonation expands the pouch. All doctors are different though. I haven't had any and I don't plan to. Thanks for the info though, its nice to know. I drink coffee, Diet Green Tea w/Citrus or Mixed Berries, and water in the AM. No more carby drinks for me. I can't get rid of my smoothies, but I'll hold off till later in the day! Amber

1. What types of food did you eat this week? The same. My major addictions are still Diet Green Tea with Citrus & Mixed Berry, honey roasted peanuts, and blazin buffalo goldfish. EEEEEEEEEK. 2. What types of exercise did you do this week? I went to the gym a few days this week, walked every lunch break, and stayed busy. 3. How much weight did you lose? Total loss? .5 pound. 211.5. Hey, it's still a loss. 4. What was your biggest challenge? Chewing my calcium. 5. What are the results of your supplements/vitamin intake from your 6 month post-op appointment? I seen my doctor yesterday and he said I was doing awesome. My B12, Iron, Thiamin, and Protein were perfect! Yay! I just wish they could measure my calcium. *Fun bonus question: If you could go on one reality TV show, which would it be? [i.e. Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Top Chef, Miami Ink, Real World, Trading Spaces, etc.] Definitely Amazing Race, I love to travel and it would be a great way to see parts of the world that I probably wouldn't want to see and have a chance to make a little money as well.
