I suffer from the opposite. Which really got me to how big I was at 263. I never saw myself as fat....and now that Im coming down its like Im finally living up to my mental image. I pull pants now and think...holy those are huge..and they fit me, so my mind set is that IM smaller. That somtimes can be just as bad. You are a beautiful girl!! Look at yourself more..perhaps you avoid reflections and mirrors when you should really be seeing yourself out walking around. Chin up.. you ARE smaller! Linda 263/193

Topic: RE: MUNCHIES???
Thank you so much for your advice! I had some personal tragedies right at the time I had my surgery, so my focus wasn't on my eating. I just did what I had to to get through the day. But, I've got to start focusing and the things you said are very helpful. I haven't been drinking enough water or writing down what I've been eating. That will be my goal this week. I will do my best to get on track. Thanks again! This is the push I needed. Have a great day! Deanna

Deanna, it's very important to schedule your three meals for the same times daily; are you getting in a minimum of 64 oz water daily? Could you make a goal of increasing that amount? Are you tracking everything you eat every day? It helps to see it on paper. Modify your pattern, and make certain you're not munching out of boredom. Step up the exercise, find other activities to do and hopefully you won't be interested in munching anymore. You'll want to nip this in the bud right now, because we're so new out of surgery, and this is prime time to incorporate healthy habits to ensure long-term success with our journeys. I'm so proud of your honesty here, and best of luck to you. Hugs, Patti

1. Surgery date: July 25, 2006 2. Lbs. lost: 63. 3. Main source of protein: Variety including chicken, pork, fish, fat-free cottage cheese, part-skim mozzarella string cheese, 20gm protein powder added to anything possible, and soy milk. 4. How much water are you getting in?: Minimum 64 oz daily. 5. Are you keeping up with your vitamins/calcium, etc.: Yes, thank heavens for weekly pill-planners--have got two to hold everything. 6. What vitamins are you taking? Centrum chewable twice daily, Caltrate-600-D four times daily, one sublingual B12 1000mcg daily, one Biotin 300 mcg daily, one Potassium Gluconate 595 mg daily, and Carbonyl Iron 50mg twice daily. 7. Any hair loss? Minimal shedding. 8. What kind of exercise are you doing? Pilates Yoga four times weekly, various workout routines at gym--elliptical, lift weights, treadmill, plus regular walking. 9. Approximately how many calories are you taking in a day? At three-month post-op, was told by nutritionist to stop tracking calories and carbs, and now only count protein, since etting minimum 60 gms daily, all would level out. I eat mostly protein, with two ounce veggie and two ounce fresh fruit as one-cup meals three times daily. Also, one cup soy milk mid-morning and mid-afternoon. 10. What foods give you problems? None--haven't tried beef, and avoid anything white other than soy milk and fish. Favorite meal: three oz Yoplait light mixed with 1/2 cup fat-free cottage cheese plus one scoop 20 mg protein powder. Recently started having 3/4 cup Special K-High Protein cereal with one diced large or two diced medium strawberries, with 1/2 cup soy milk three to four breakfasts weekly. 11. Biggest problems so far? Getting over the constant amazement of this ever-shrinking body! Really no problem!

The guys in my office always call me skinning now and I get embrassed because I think I still weigh 213 lbs. and I have a long way to go. I'm still a long way from being skinny. I know they are being nice, but I still get embrassed. Sometimes I see my reflection in the mirror and I wonder who is that person. For the most part I feel good about myself and know I look different and better. My husband is happy with the results so far, but he does get upset when I get sick or can't eat something. My brother just got into town from Calif. and I haven't seen him since before surgery. I'm excited to see him. I know he'll be surprised. You are doing great Melissa, just keep up the good work and take the compliments in stride. Working with the counslor sounds like a good idea. Hang in there.Take care. Kathi
