Topic: questions from 10/06 post-op
Hi All, I am three months behind you and was hoping you could answer a couple questions for me. First, I'd thought the big weight loss would continue for the first three months. Especially because I am only 5' and I started with a very high BMI. That's what I'd been told and what I expected. Well, the first month, I lost 40 lbs, but the second month, I only lost 16 I didn't expect that sort of slowdown till month four! Did any of you slow down and then pick up speed again? How is the weight loss going at this point? Second, anyone having luck now eating foods that made them sick a few months back? Like cheese? Melted cheese? Any cheese?? My French ancestors might have forgiven me giving up the wine for a year or more and the bread, but they did a collective rollover in their graves over me not being able to keep cheese down! Are you able to eat salad yet? At what point did that work for you? Do you find that exercise really has increased your weight loss? Significantly? How's the excess skin thing going? Has exercise helped with that? Anyone with diabetes T2...are your blood sugars still normal? Anyone with sciatica...is it getting any easier? Thanks much in advance for any input! Lisa

Topic: 6 month check-up.
Well, I had my 6 month check-up today, EXACTLY 6 months from my surgery. I have lost 57 pounds total from 260. I thought that was low. The nurse practitioner said I was very average. They figured I was 126 pounds overweight. I have lost 57 lbs. which is 45% of 126. She said the average person loses 40 to 50% of the total weight they must lose by 6 months. YEA, being average never felt so good!!! We talked about what I should be eating, both in protein and calories. Well, I don't think I have a problem with the calories but I don't think I am getting the protein in. I am going to start recording that again. I added up today's protein and can see that it is way low! No wonder! Thanks again to all of the people that have written me and told me they feel like a slow loser too. The support here is just WONDERFUL! I am going to keep in touch more often now

Topic: RE: Looking for other slow losers!
Hey Julie, First of all let me say thank you so much for posting. I too have avoided the site because I have been so upset about the slow loss. Feeling like I have even failed at this. morning of surgery i weighed 301, and finally after workin my tail off got to 235 this week 66 lbs. There have been so many wow moments thus far. I agree with you 100% we should all find a motivation. or we could lean on eachother nd use one another for it. Congrats on what has been lost, and even more congrats on the quality of life you are gaining everyday. Now lets get moving, 2007 will bring goals!!

Congrats! Our stats are really close...I was 374 day of surgery, today i'm at 278...I wanted 100 pounds by the end of the year too! Just a couple more pounds to go for me. I also have another 100 to go. Isn't the change amazing?? Not just the size, but the whole lifestyle since surgery...I wish I had done this ten years ago...

I am so sorry you are getting discouraged by others wt loss. I dont consider myself a fast or a slow loser. I have lost just over 100 lbs BUT...I started at almost 400 lbs. For me it was very depessing to lose almost 100 lbs and still be wearing a 3x and I lost over 50 lbs before anyone even noticed. I think you are doing fine. Each of us go at different rates but I if u figure the drs think it will take 1 yr to get to your goal and u figure out how much u have to go you will see u arent doing to bad at all. I dont know what your goal is....but if u wt 260 and u wanted to wt 130 thats 130 u have to lose...take that by 12 months and u need to lose 10.8 lbs per month on average. Some months u will do better and some maybe have a stall....but all in all I think u are doing fine...and if you goal is 140...u are even that much more ahead of the game. PLUS.....you havent lost any hair....how amazing is that. I have friends that almost ended up bald....I like u havent lost my hair and Im thrilled for that alone. Yes I believe u will reach your goal. We are all here for the long haul...we sure arent here becouse dieting came easy for any of us. I wish u all the best in you journey and I think we all have to do some form of exercise. Its a great habit to get into...even small movements ...just start somewhere. Any movement is better than nothing and in a month or a week u can build on it...just start moving even if its a walk around the block or 3 min on a treadmil....
