The anesthesia would be a very good reason for my hair loss, I've had it 5 times in 4 months due to a stricture and then having my gallbladder out!
My Dr doesn't give us amounts of protein we have to get in, and I don't really keep track so sorry I can't help you out there. I just make sure it's what I eat the most of at each meal.

Sarah-
Welcome to the July board!
My hair loss started around month 3 and it's just started to slow down....thank goodness! My hair wasn't too thick to begin with so I can certainly tell that it's much thinner. Even my hair dresser said it was just hanging! SO...I got a better cut for my thinner hair and I'm trying to be sure I'm getting in all my protein, vitamins and water (not only for my hair, but for my health!!).
I've been told that taking Biotin may help, but so far I've not done anything "special" and it seems to be going away on it's own.

From what I understand a number of things 'cause the hair loss.. The lack of protein, the shock of surgery, the anesthesia... IMHO the shampoos and special vitamins don't work. I have heard that getting in your required amount of protein daily will help it re-grow...not necessarily stop it from falling out. I've struggled with this problem for awhile now..and it is finally slowing down. I still have a little after I shower but not nearly like before. lol There for awhile I was afraid to cook dinner for my family!!

Hey Jan
Thank for the reply, I hope that my hair is coming back in, but I am still losing a good amount of hair daily! How much protein are you gtting in with food alone? I try to get it through food alone, but I know that I am not getting in the required 80+ grams I need.
Thanks again,
Sarah

Up the water intake and try to up the protein. That's what worked for my stall.

I started experiencing hair loss about 3-4 months post-op, now I'm almost 6 months post-op and can say it's slowed down quite a bit, in fact my hairdresser says it's starting to grow back in as she can see lots of short hairs coming out.
I don't do anything special, and I'm not allowed to drink protein drinks anymore, so I just continue to eat protein first at every meal, and also if I snack (which isn't that often).

Topic: New Here.......Hair loss ?
Good morning all,
This is the first time that I have been here, and had a question for any who may be able to help. I starte losing hair in about month 2 1/2, and I am still losing like crazy! Is this happening to anyone else or am I alone on this? Thank goodness I have, well HAD, very thick hair but it just feels so thin now to me. When will I stop losing??? I have been really bad on my protein drinks, but have started adding 1 to 2 a day and I just hope this will help. When I spoke to my surgeon about this he said not to waste money on any of the special vits or shampoo's as they don't work. So any help, info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all,
Sarah

Hi Everyone!
I'm having some trouble and was hoping for some advice. Before my surgery, I was taking wellbutrin xl - 300 mg and zoloft - 100 mg. I decided that as of the day I had surgery, I wasn't going to take any medication anymore, and just stopped. About the 3rd month I realized I needed some help and started taking wellbutrin again. After several attempts to get the correct kind of wellbutrin and the correct dosage from my pcp, we finally got it right. I have felt much better. But, I am finally ready to admit that I probably shouldn't have gotten off of the zoloft. I'm wondering if any of you are taking zoloft, and if so, did you have to change the type and dosage after surgery? I've been stalled on my weight loss since before Christmas, and am afraid that going back on zoloft will make really make my weight loss stall, if not gain. If anyone has any information orinput on the zoloft, please let me know. I'd really appreciate the help!
Thanks!

Miss Crystal,
Wow, what a gorgeous dress and you did look fabulous in it. Congrats on almost reaching that century mark. I want to hit it by my birthday which is less than 4 mos. but now I'm only 15 lbs away so I think I can I think I can. I'm actually 110 lbs down from my highest weight but I've been going by my surgery weight because I had maintained that for nearly a year before surgery.
Good luck on that one pound--you'll be posting again very soon!
Topic: Weighloss stall?!!
I have been losing weight none stop since surgery and I think I hit my first stall. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so what did you do to get through it and get your weighloss going again.
