Hi everyone! I have avoided coming to this website for the longest time because everytime I come here I see people that have lost TONS more than me and I don't want to get discouraged. I am 5 ft 5 and started out at 260. I had been up to 275 the year before. I now weigh 200. That's only 60 lbs. for 6 months. I know I haven't been perfect but I also know I can improve so much more. As always in my life, I have found I need to exercise in order to lose weight. Believe it or not I worked out more in December than I did in October and November! I am going to work my booty off now more than ever since I know things are slowing down. I do have to say that the sagging skin is not that bad at all and I haven't lost hair. Oh, and I have gone from a size 28 to a size 20!! Woohoo! No more diabetes or high blood pressure either! Now I just need to get rid of the sleep apnea. Ok, so are there other people out there with slow results like me?? HELP.... we need to huddle and support each other on not giving up and believing we can still reach our goals!

Hi Julie...first of all CONGRATS on the weightloss....I had RNY July 26, 2006 and I am a slow loser too...I have only lost 60 lbs to date...I started out at 315 (before surgery) 309 (day of surgery) 247 (currently)...I have been working out since before surgery just doing about 15 min on treadmill because I would get winded real easy but now I walk at a 3.5 for 1 hour and I listen to or watch tv and on the comercials I actually run...I have gone from a size tight 28 pants to a 20 - 22 depending on who is making them...I have noticed that I don't get in all my protein or water, water hurts my tummy...but I am trying....and the protein is tasting really icky to me right now....but eventually we will reach goal and be proud of ourselves...

Hi Julie, I'm also a slow loser. I'm 5' 7" and started at 290. I'm down 70lbs to 220. I'm grateful for each and every pound I've lost, but it gets hard not to get discouraged when other post ops from July are losing much more weight than I have. I don't have any problems tolerating food, and I think if I'm not really careful this could be a problem. Best wishes for the new year. Ann

Hey, Julie I'm right there with you, slower weight loss than most. But it IS coming off, even if it is a little slow. Since I've never lost 65 pounds in 5 1/2 months before in my life, OR lost weight over the holidays even if it was just a couple of pounds, I'll take it! And so far I don't have skin issues, or hair loss, and have had no complications. Size 28 to size 20, how terrific is THAT? Sounds like you are doing GREAT! Jezia

Hello Everyone!!! You're definitely not alone. I haven't responded much to the posts either because I was embarrassed that I wasn't keeping up with everyone else. I'm also a slow loser. I've only lost 51 lbs since my surgery on July 7, 2006. I started at 204 and am now at 153. However, I know the slow weight loss is my own fault. I don't always eat like I should. I have a hard time getting in the protein. It seems like everything I love is a Carb. (my weakness is chips and green sauce from Gringo's Mexican Food!) I'm also having a hard time getting in the water. Before surgery, I could easily drink 6-7 bottles of water a day. Now I'm LUCKY if I can get in 3. But, my New Years resolution is to get myself on track and strive every day to do the best that I can. It'll come off, eventually. I'm determined to get on a regular exercise routine, drink my water, and get in the right amount of protein. Good luck to you all! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Deanna

Thanks for the responses!!! It's nice to hear I am not the only one out here moving bit by bit to lose weight. Like some of you I have had no complications and nothing, including sugars, bother me the least. I know I need to be extra careful since Iam so tolerant. Well, I am off to the gym now. My 6 month appt. is tomorrow. I am going to hold my head high and be thankful for all I have accomplished so far!

I am so sorry you are getting discouraged by others wt loss. I dont consider myself a fast or a slow loser. I have lost just over 100 lbs BUT...I started at almost 400 lbs. For me it was very depessing to lose almost 100 lbs and still be wearing a 3x and I lost over 50 lbs before anyone even noticed. I think you are doing fine. Each of us go at different rates but I if u figure the drs think it will take 1 yr to get to your goal and u figure out how much u have to go you will see u arent doing to bad at all. I dont know what your goal is....but if u wt 260 and u wanted to wt 130 thats 130 u have to lose...take that by 12 months and u need to lose 10.8 lbs per month on average. Some months u will do better and some maybe have a stall....but all in all I think u are doing fine...and if you goal is 140...u are even that much more ahead of the game. PLUS.....you havent lost any hair....how amazing is that. I have friends that almost ended up bald....I like u havent lost my hair and Im thrilled for that alone. Yes I believe u will reach your goal. We are all here for the long haul...we sure arent here becouse dieting came easy for any of us. I wish u all the best in you journey and I think we all have to do some form of exercise. Its a great habit to get into...even small movements ...just start somewhere. Any movement is better than nothing and in a month or a week u can build on it...just start moving even if its a walk around the block or 3 min on a treadmil....

Hey Julie, First of all let me say thank you so much for posting. I too have avoided the site because I have been so upset about the slow loss. Feeling like I have even failed at this. morning of surgery i weighed 301, and finally after workin my tail off got to 235 this week 66 lbs. There have been so many wow moments thus far. I agree with you 100% we should all find a motivation. or we could lean on eachother nd use one another for it. Congrats on what has been lost, and even more congrats on the quality of life you are gaining everyday. Now lets get moving, 2007 will bring goals!!

Thank God for this post!!! I thought I was all by myself. I AM A SLOW LOSER!! and I thought I was all alone. Pre surgery weight 320 lbs., day of surgery 315lbs., currently 245 lbs. I have been at 245lbs. since December 3rd. I keep fluctuating between 245lbs. and 248lbs. I am getting so discouraged. In the past it was due to my period and once my period came on I would drop the weight, but this time it didn't go anywhere. Sometimes I go to 243 or 244 but it doesn't stay there. I am down about 70 to 75lbs. I was hoping to be at -100lbs at my 6th month on January 17th, but I'm not going to make it. My doctor wanted me under 200lbs. by my 6th month, and I clearly not going to make that either. My hair is gone in patches (I had very thick hair before). I have been trying to take in more protein and I have started exercising again. Let's see if it helps. I will be hiring a personal trainer. My new goal is to be in the 230's by the end of January and hopefully well under 200 lbs. by my birthday in June. I just hope I am not one of those people who stops losing after 75lbs. I know that I should be grateful that, because I would never be able to lose 75lbs in 5 months, but damn it I had major surgery!! and yes I do expect to lose quicker than I would on my own. So I expect to do better than average with major surgery. I will do my part....but I want BIG result!! QUICK Ok, I got that off my chest. Yes I am grateful and I will work hard and use my took properly. I am blessed to have lost 75lbs.

Aloha Julie.......I am so glad I checked the "July" forum this morning. I, like so many who have posted, quit coming in here because I was discouraged with the major weight losses some have achieved who had surgery almost the same time I did. If I didn't compare I didn't feel quite so badly. I started at 319 at surgery date (7/26/06) and am now down to 253 (66 lbs.) From one perspective that seems like a LOT OF WEIGHT to lose in 5.5 months. But when compared to someone losing over 100 lbs. it seems paltry. I am much encouraged when I read of several others now who have lost from 50 -75 lbs. after July surgeries. That means we are all losing, but some faster than others. I believe in the "slow but sure" method of getting to our weight loss goals. Thanks so much all of you for bravely stating your progress on here. Let's keep giving each other support and encouragement. It really helps!! Aloha nui loa, KarenS
