I had surgery on October 31st. I just thought I would hit your page as everyone on the October forum is still recovering. I need to know when the nausea will pass and at what point will I actually feel like eating. I have had to force myself to drink water today and could barely get in 20 oz. I ate a total of maybe 4 tsp. of yogurt. No where near the protein I need. Please ... I need to know that I have not just made the biggest mistake of my life!

You have probably made the best choice of your life and extended the quality of your life onehundred percent!!! My doc told me to try to work up to drinking 64 oz of fluids a day, I didn't hit that til about a month and a half postop. Protein-wise yogurt is a good choice, keep eating it. Of course you can't get it all in at this point, but about a month and a half and you should have a good chance of getting all that you need. Just keep trying, that is what is important. I am 3-1/2 months postop and still don't feel like I have to eat, nor do I miss that feeling. Right now you are healing and won't experience pouch hunger, head hunger may be another story. Try to stick to the surgeon's plan for you. Give it time and you will find out how to handle your new pouch's plan for you. Best of luck!! Come back here anytime you want. ~Diana~

Mel- It will get better! I'm just now starting to hit a good stride where I want to eat again....I still don't feel hungry though. The nausea will go away from surgery, but I still get nausated every now and then with certain foods...just trial and error. As for getting in water....work up to it. Keep trying, keep doing your best...your doctor and/or nutritionist will be your best friends for questions. Christina S

I had a really hard time with water at first. I ended up eating a lot of sugar free popsicles and I loved ice chips....they went down a lot better at first for some reason. I also would use my blender to chop up sugar free popsicles until they were like ice chips. It was my favorite thing post op. Don't worry you will be eating more before you know it. My nutritionist told me when I was feeling the same way that I shouldn't worry so much about it and just enjoy not feeling hungry for once.....because eventually you will regain your appetite.....

Hunger comes and goes... don't worry about getting in all your protein in, it will happen! BE SURE TO JOURNAL YOUR FOOD INTAKE!! I can think that I'm eating enough, or that I've gotten enough protein, but WRONG! If you have Excel, and want me to send you my food journal, shoot me an e-mail and I'll send it.

It definately gets better!! Takes awhile though. The protien is very important, so for me... I drank my high protien powder drink 2X a day. The nausea took just over a month to go away & I had to add flavour to my water & it still was uncomfortable going in. I was VERY frustrated the first 2 months, but when you stsrt to feel FANTASTIC & see the HUGE results you will know that it was all worth it! Hang in there, you will feel better. I have never felt better in my entire life!! Hugs, Heather lap-RNY Dr Hagen July 25/06 255/176

It does get better, but for me the first three months were H*LL! I still at close to 4 months post op and am not hungry and food disgusts me right now, but I guess that's a good thing! Unjury protein powder was my saving grace right after surgery. It was one of the only things I could drink and not have a problem with. You've made the right choice, and just remember "This too shall pass!" Jan

Oh my gosh, you are just a week out!! Poor baby, you feel like a train ran you over, don't you? It will get better. Don't panic about not getting in all your protein or water yet; just do the best you can. Rest, rest, rest; walk when you can; take tiny sips all day. You will feel better soon Hugs Jezia

My first month was awful...I regretted it..everything I ate made me feel sick..drinking water made me sick and I was so depressed. Now...I promise you from the bottom of my heart you will feel better each day. One day youll just feel like yourself again. Do your best everyday, be kind to yourself..think about what your stomach just went through! Hugs Linda
