More surgery for me ...

Thursday hubby and I were headed out of town when my cell phone rang. It was my surgeon's office calling, and they told me the DR wanted to see me. I couldn't understand why since I had just been in for my 3 month check-up. Turns out he wants to talk to me about removing my gall bladder! We knew going into WLS that I had many stones, but he wouldn't remove the gall bladder at the same time as doing the WLS. Told me to come back in 3-4 months after I'd lost 100 pounds ... of course I thought he was nuts, and I'd never loose that much so fast, I haven't yet, but I'm so much closer ...lol. So now looks as thought I get to go under for the 5th time in the last 4 months! I know it won't be that bad, but I'm not looking forward to it at all! Anyone had their gall bladder out? How much time did you have to take off work? Jan

Ugh. I am so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I have no clue because they jerked mine out during my surgery. They prefer to do it that way. We had to do labs before hand, including a ultrasounds of our innards. They seen I had stones, and said its only going to get worse with the more weight you lose and I had some chronic problems that I knew nothing about. I don't think it will be too bad on you, the recovery will probably be like having another surgery, I'm assuming it will be laproscopic? Just one more little slice. I'll be thinking of you and hoping it goes well, believe me, you'll want that sucker out of there if you start having attacks. Amber

Thanks Amber! For some reason my surgeon doesn't like doing it at the same time. It will be laproscopic, and I'll know more about when it will be on Friday when I see him. Jan

Aw crap Jan, five times in four months??? Geez!!! I had my taken laparoscopically six weeks after C section. It was a piece of... well, it was easy. The only thing easier was stricture repair! Was only in outpatient ward for five hours. Muscles felt like I had done a few too many sit ups, not bad. My surgery was Friday and went back to work Monday without any problems. I was 28 at the time, maybe that makes a difference, but it was easy. Hope everything comes out ok for you. Hey, tell the doc to save the stones for you to see. Once you look at them, you understand why you were in pain. Good luck! ~Diana~

How odd! I had mine out six weeks after a c-section, too. May 2005, to be exact. For me, the recovery was difficult. I'd say the initial pain was as intense as my RNY, but it didn't last as long. I was on maternity leave at the time, but I would probably have given myself 2 weeks.

Hi Jan, I'm like you! I'm having to have my gallbladder out as well. They were also unable to get mine when I had my surgery. I'm going to have mine out on the 17th of this month. My Doctor has told me that I can go back to work on Monday November 20th. The reason I can go back to work is because I work in a office and do not heavy lifting. I hope that everything comes out well for you. Take care
