Anyone else tired of same old food?
I am almost 3 weeks post-op and am doing very, very well. I lost 18 pounds pre-op and as of this morning I have lost 77 pounds post-op. I have had no real problems with anything I've eaten. I have had problems a couple of times by eating too fast and not chewing as thoroughly as I need to. But, nothing has come up or out inappropriately.
I am getting tired of the same old food routine though. I'm eating low-carb yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, chicken, refried beans, and that is about it. My doctor and nutritionist really stress having a limited diet until about 4 months out. But, I'm getting tired of those things.
For those of you who have had surgery in July like me, what things are you eating at 8-12 weeks post-op? I know what I'm doing is successful, but I would like to have a little more variety and am wondering what other options exist. I would apprciate your input. Thanks.
Scott
Hi Scott. Congrats on the loss~you are doing outstanding. I know you are getting tired of the same old things like the rest of us, but with your results, I wouldn't change a thing!!
I have been eating lots of dairy products too, chicken tacos and fajitas without the shells, fish, chili, veggie soups, etc.
Check out the weekly five on the July forum, current and past for more ideas. We post this weekly. Please reply when you see it.

Aloha Scott...Wow, you have lost a lot!! That is amazing. They tell us that men lose so much fast than women do, and you are certainly proof of that. I'm 8 weeks out and have only lost 34 lbs....and seem stuck there.
As for food I ate at your stage, I think I ate a lot of cream soups. As especially good one is Campbell's chicken/mushroom. Yum! I would freeze leftover and put cubes in a plastic bag and just take out 3 or 4 for dinner or lunch. Also, I ate a lot of cottage cheese with papaya, and at 4 weeks I had some scallops and shrimp with catsup. Went down good, but everyone is different.
At 8 weeks I just had salad for the first time......it was so excellent! Also, I'm not eating things like Wendy's chili, South Beach Diet sandwich rollups, and homemade chicken. I've been very happy with each thing I've tried, and always chew good and wait to see if it's going to agree with my "Gracie." She's been a good pouch...very agreeable and gentle with me, but I'm gentle with her, too.
Good Luck...and experiment away!
Aloha,

Scott, Im confused. U said u were 3 weeks post op but then u said u had surgery in July. I had surgery on July 12 and u can see a copy of my surgery menus on the yellow pages of this site. It will tell u what u can eat at each week/month out. I hope this helps u. http://www.wlsindy.com/planphases.htm Just click on each page and it will enlarge.
I stick to eating mostly protein. I dont eat carbs except for low glycemic veggys and cream of wheat and oatmeal and I limit those. I have lost 90 lbs since July 12th
Good luck on your continued success,
Mariah.
Sorry about the typo. I am almost 3 months post-op, not 3 weeks. I looked at the yellow sheets and they are very, very similar to what my surgeon and nutritionist has provided me. I am eating those things, but they are simply getting a little monotonous. I am so encouraged by my weight loss so far, that I don't want to do anything too different and screw something up, but at the same time some additional variety would be nice.
Anybody who has suggestions, I'm willing to listen. Thanks for all of the support and ideas. Keep in touch.

I finally got to go to the Outback yesterday. That is my favorite restraunt of all time. I got my order to go. I ordered a steak, steamed broccoli and a salad. I ate the steamed broc. for my lunch yesterday. Then at Dinner I had the last little bit of the broc and about 1/6 of my steak. It was so so so good. I made sure to chew it up really well. I thew out the bread they gave me and I still have 5/6 of the steak left and the entire salad down i my fridge. Im so looking forward to trying salad today. I havent had any since surgery and I do plan on having steak for at least 2 meals...LOL
So far so good.

Scott-
You're going great! I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from your post, but I would caution you to do what your surgeon/nutr. are advising you to do. If you haven't already, you should ask them for suggestions. I would hate for you to try some of the things suggested (although not bad suggestions) and have your results slow or you develop a problem.
I was told I could eat "anything" (within healthy choices) at week 8....but every surgeon has a different take.
Best to you,
Christina S
Have you tried adding spices and cooking things differently? I've been cooking an egg scramble with added tofu for extra protein and adding garlic, finely diced and well cooked onions, cumin, tumeric, nutritional yeast and cilantro. they are amazing! Also made a greats bean soup. Basicaly i have looked and asked everyone i know for variations on cooking the same things to switch it up. so far its working wonderfuly
Hey, Scott
I had a DS, so I may be able to eat some things that you can't, but . . . I went to a local "gourmet" grocery store this weekend and stocked up on some high protein treats. Shrimp, veal, different kinds of cheese, pumpkin seeds, stuff like that. Those stores are expensive but since I am only buying little bitty portions (or getting a normal portion and cutting it up before it goes into the freezer) it works out ok. Maybe that would be helpful to you . . .

Do what your surgeon says, but I was told that I could try what I wanted once I hit the six week mark. I had surgery on 7/31 and I eat Wendy's chili, boiled eggs, a little wheat toast (1/4 of a slice), salad, sliced pickles, protein bars, lots of cheese, lots of chicken, I had a hamburger one day minus the bun, but with cheese and dipped in mustard, Taco Bell refried beans, a little watermelon, green beans, cooked cabbage, peas. My favorite thing thus far is the salad...after purees I really craved something crunchy and I have been on a salad kick lately! I eat it with lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, onions, green peppers, pickles, and put chicken on top. I think I am also going to try cutting up some boiled egg and adding that as well for extra protein. Good luck! Monique
