Hi, I had my surgery on 7/19. I lost 27 pounds in the first few weeks and since then I've been on a stall that has officially lasted 3 weeks now. I'm getting very frustrated. I get in all my protein, I was told to up my calories, carbs and fat because my levels were too low - go figure that LOL!!!. My question is about protein drinks. I use a powder that I mix with 6 oz of water. Would this count as a snack or fluid? Would I then have to have another snack? Thanks. Heather

Hi Heather I am in exactly the same boat as you! But for some reason, today I feel more upbeat and less frustrated and depressed. Maybe that means the scale will be moving soon ~crosses her fingers~ On the protein drink, when I use one I count it as both, snack AND fluid. After all, it IS both, right? Hang in there, we are at the famous first stall . . . Jezia

I just thought I'd share with you guys what my doctor told me at my one month checkup. She told me she didn't want me to drink any more protein drinks, that I needed to get all my protein from food, and if I had a protein supplement, then protein bars were much better, in fact she thinks it's a good idea to always have one on hand in case you get yourself in a situation where there is nothing you could/should eat. The reason for no protein drinks is your body learns it doesn't have to work as hard to get what it needs from liquids, basically all the work is done for it. This slows your metabolism down, and you loose less weight. With food the body has to work to break it down. I know every doctor is different but this all made total sense to me. She says that since our bodies slow down with weight loss between 9-12 months post-op it's important to loose as much as possible before 9 months. Hope this helps you ... please talk to your doctor if you have any questions, mine is wonderful and will answer anything. She also advices no peanut butter unless you get to a point you need to gain weight! Janet

Hi Janet! That sort of depends on the type of surgery. I've had a DS, and I can't possibly get in 90-120 g of protein a day from food alone this soon after surgery - I can't eat that much. AND . . . with the DS we don't have to worry about fat, so we CAN eat peanut butter, although I have not been since the first week or two after surgery! Good luck with your progress! Jezia
