6 Weeks Out-Need Some Help!
Hello Everyone!
I haven't been posting as much as I should (for my own sanity) and I haven't even updated my profile since before surgery. However, I have been browsing what many of you are writing and I have appreciated knowing that I am not alone.
As far as I can tell, I am doing very well. Hardly any pain once I got home, no throwing up(only felt nauseated twice), no dumping, am tolerating everything that I have tried to eat except maybe hot spices(not sure if I ate too fast), have lost about 35 pounds, and have gone down a size or two in my clothes.
I do have a few questions for you guys tho!
As of today, I still have not tried to do protien supplements (shakes or otherwise)because I am convinced that I can get it all in without doing that. My doc and nut have not told me to do protien supplements, although they did give me a sheet listing many with prices and locations. The only thing that I can see is that it would give me a little more variety in what I eat at my meals. Right now, I am just drinking milk to make up for if I can't get all of it in my food. Is this normal, should I do it if I am getting in my protien without it? Does anyone know if I will have repercussions if I don't like the infamous hair loss?
Recently, I have read many postings about the 3 week stall. I think that I have gone through it, but it did not happen for me then, it happened during week five and six. I have only lost 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Has anyone else had that happen as late as me?
As far as exercising goes, I am walking 5 days a week between 1-2 miles each time. Ater reading some of your posts, I feel that maybe I should be doing more. Now that I hit my 6 week mark, I am going to look into joining a 24 hour fitness center. Is anyone doing anything else besides walking, like at home even? If so, what?
Hope everyone is doing well and that you have some good ideas for me! Thanks in advance.
I can't really answer you about the protein, because I have been unable to consume enough food to get it all in without using a supplement. I use unjury chocolate and mix it with decaf coffee and a little cream and splenda and freeze it overnight then put it in the microwave about a minute or so (just so it will blend in my blender okay) ....it almost tastes like a Wendy's frosty. I usually walk 1 and 1/4 of a mile to 2 miles about 5 times a week....it was getting a little boring so I decided to try a walking exercise tape....I think it's Denise Austin (Austen?). It's pretty good and has 3 different level sessions and a stretching session.....if you want to do more you just do another session. I did 2 today and each session is equal to a 1 mile walk. You walk the entire time, but you also move your arms and stuff as well....I have also noticed that the sun really seems to drain me and I like to exercise in the AM and get it over with.....so this eliminates that problem.....Good luck! Monique D.
I can't imagine being able to eat enough protein in my foods to get it all in without a protein mix. Are you getting in 60gm of protein a day? If you are I can't see why that would be a problem. But its always best to ask your surgeon/nut
Congrats on the 35lbs! I'm not to six wks yet but I really think everyone stalls in their own time, doesn't seem logical to all follow the same formula.
Best of luck!!
Hey, Jen
I am at 6 weeks and am having a weight loss stall as well. I've only lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks. At least that was the case on Tuesday, and I only weigh once a week so I don't drive myself crazy I just started back to work yesterday, and am struggling with fatigue and low stamina, but am glad to be back in a normal routine. You are walking more than I am at this point, but that is mostly because I can't tolerate the Texas heat long enough to get really good walks in. Once I get used to being back at work and don't need to nap in my car at lunch time I'll be walking in the mall across the highway from my office at lunch time instead. My surgeon told me no "serious" exercise until I hit the 90 day mark, but my surgery was open, and I have a big incision to protect ~smiles~ I do NOT want a hernia if I can avoid one, so I am trying to be patient!
Protein drinks . . . I generally have one a day. I had a DS and need a higher level of protein (90-120 g a day) I could never get that in with food alone, unless I ate constantly all day, and my poor little tummy won't tolerate THAT!
Hang in there!
