Hello Everyone! First Post, Really Discouraged!!
Hi, My name is Christy and my surgery (lap rny) was on July 31, 2006. Today I am 3 weeks out and am very discouraged. the first week ans a half post-op I lost 25lbs. But since then the scale hasn't budged. I know there will be plateaus, but gee whiz I didn't expect one this early on and I am shocked that it's lasting this long. I know it's absurd but I can't help but feel like that's it, I'm not going to lose anymore and I've failed yet again. Does anyone have any thoughts on my dilema? Any help would be treasured!
I had surgery on July 31st as well. Don't worry we all loose at different rates. I have lost between 20 and 25lbs as well. Don't forget that at first it is so drastic cause you are loosing water weight. Just be sure that you are getting in all your water, protein, sticking to your doctors suggested eating plan and excersizing everyday.
You have not failed!! When was the last time you lost 25lbs in 3 weeks??? Just keep doing what you are supossed to be doing and the weight will start to come off again. You are doing great!!
Don't worry Christy! If you look at other boards you will see lots of people slow down or don't lose in week 3! I didn't lose an ounce... I freaked out! but it's been 6 weeks now and I've lost 49 pounds. Your body is just trying to figure out it all out.
Just keep doing what your doctor says, and try to keep busy! You are doing great!

Hi Christy -
I think we may just be at that discouraged place - I've been talking to soooo many people and they ALL say that it comes off in a chunk and then nothing and then a chunk. keep in mind a couple of things - I have yet to hear from ANYONE who was on target as far as that stupid weightloss estimator is concerned. i'm sure there are some who are on target but many more who aren't. the other thing was that I froze before and during my period - unfortunately, we have the extra hormones and they loooooove to hang on to weight. so watch your cycle that has an impact. also your cycle will likely change with the surgery and weightloss too.
best-
Deb
(who is usually not-so-positive so you know i'm not just being nice!)
I really don't understand what your discouraged about? Your loosing and not gaining right? You didn't put all your weight on in a month right? You don't have any surgical complications do you?
I think your expecting way too much from the surgery. Boy oh boy, 20+ pounds in a month is wonderful ... look at the positive side of life!
Keep up the great work!
Janet
My surgery date was July 31st too, and I have lost 26 lbs. My loss has been a little more spread out than yours, but last week, I just lost 3 pounds.
I weigh myself "officially" once a week on Monday morning on a doctor type scale at the clinic at work. I can't resist taking little peeks in between times though on my home scale. This morning, I was actually UP a pound, on my home scale. But I won't let it bum me, because it is not the official weight.
As I am getting my strength back, I figure I will walk more and that will help. Also, I read in Prevention magazine that drinking a cold 12 oz glass of water will raise your metabolism by 30% by 40 minutes later. Wow!
Hang in there! Now you are losing inches that correspond to the water weight you lost earlier.
